The Death penalty is absurd.

Sorry, disagree completely.
Then you are not a Christian, never been a victim of injustice and have never made a mistake of judgement in your life? :D
Atheist, haven't really been a victim of injustice, but I have made more than my share of mistakes. But I do take responsibility for those mistakes.

If I do the wrong thing, or break the law, then that IS my fault, so I'd happily take the punishment.
Sure you would.
Even it if was vastly disproportionate right...
Flogging?
Amputation?
Death by?

Having made a mistake you think it is fine to kill someone based on your obviously flawed judgement?
Many innocent people have died at the hands of the state.

Personally, I think they were fools.
But not all fools and criminals deserve to die.
The message re the death penalty there is clear.
It hasn't stopped Indonesians from being involved in supplying or being drug victims though has it?
Widodo says 50 Indonesians die every day... but these morons were taking drugs out of Indonesia.
Supposedly a judge offered them a lesser sentence for money.
Not only is the system flawed, it is corrupt in Indonesia.
Widodo is playing politics with this... primarily to the ignorant, of which Indonesia have many.
I think it is wrong to keep them alive for 10 years, then after they have shown some signs of rehabilitation and having been a positive influence on fellow prisoners and a noted help to the prison authorities and hence to Indonesia... their deaths ares pointless and a waste.
Better to leave them there doing good.
Better to have killed them quickly.
Indonesia have secured clemency or of had the death sentences of almost 200 of their citizens commuted world wide I think in the last 12 months.
What was all the sabre rattling about eh... in transporting these guys.
This is just politics nothing more.
This is standing up to Australia.
We are dealing with a corrupt infantile nation.

Sure, if the punishment for the crime was widely known and publicised, then if I was stupid enough to intentionally commit the crime, then the punishment would be appropriate.

If I decided to go on a murder spree in Texas (for example) there'd be no point in me crying about being sentenced to death, or if I decided to smuggle drugs into or out of a country with the death penalty for drug smuggling, then there be no surprise if I was sentenced to death either..

So you think people should be killed for stupidity?

No. no surprise... but for the very reasons I have already pointed out and you seem to have ignored the penalty may be unjustified.

Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran have now been executed, but we knew this would eventually happen.

There is apparent outrage" from the government, but is it worth making an enemy out of Indonesia because they followed through on their threats? Sad as it is, Chan and Sukumaran aren't innocent victims. Why are we kicking up a fuss about Indonesia's death penalty when our allies - the US, have thousands of people on death row and at least statistically 5% of them are innocent?
The Australian Government will have no choice but to respond with some force in the wake of Indonesia's executions of Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran.

]The Government has repeatedly said it is focused on saving the two men rather than recriminations, but there is a growing sense that Indonesia has behaved appallingly in its treatment of both the men and its relationship with Australia.

One longtime foreign hand told the ABC the Widodo government had been "crass, crude and objectionable", and that this now demanded a stern response.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott has already signalled such a response.

"If these executions go ahead, and I hope they don't, we will certainly be finding ways to make our displeasure felt," Mr Abbott said in February.

Indonesia is a sovereign nation, what do you expect us to do? Go to war? Your bleating is just like that idiot woman on Q&A the other night. Or like the rest of the peacenik progs who don't live in the real world.

As much as it would have been more reasonable to keep them alive doing good in the Indonesian prison system, we have all I'm sure found life at times very unfair. This is political posturing and populist politics in a country that isn't really our friend. They never had a chance except under Yudhoyono, and even he wouldn't grant them clemency.

You are a half wit. If you can't be bothered reading my posts properly - then don't bother responding.

Shh, don't disturb the delicate genius, mantra. A genius like him doesn't need to read more than the poster's name, then he can fill the rest in himself, as to what you really meant to post

I'm sure that when you questioned whether it was worth making a fuss, you really meant we should go to war with them! Genius :rofl

It will all calm down in a week or so. ;)

Another Aussie, Pham Trung Dung is on death row in Vietnam for drug smuggling. He was sentenced to death last year.

They never learn.

I'm sure Roach must have a standard transcript ready to go for every member regardless of what they say and he just types mantra, boxy, IQ, Aussie etc and hey presto - an instant sneering message.

We've lost quite a few Australians to execution in various countries and this is the first time I've seen this reaction. I can't see how withdrawing our ambassador is going to help anyone.

Mantra, here is a List of Australians who have been/are incarcerated overseas. Some have been executed, some are awaiting that demise.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Au ... ted_abroad

I have no idea what we can "do" about it. NOTHING I suspect. They are arrested in a Foreign Country and face that Country's LAWS.

Note that when Schapelle Corby started whining about her sentence, which was reduced, then she whined again and she got ever MORE on Appeal. She is there for 20 years.
