Stephen Hawking’s dire warning: Humanity won’t last another 1,000 years on Earth
On Monday, renowned physicist Stephen Hawking gave his first Australian speech at Sydney’s Opera House via hologram from his office at the University of Cambridge. And he did not have an overly positive message for the continent down under.

“We must continue to go into space for the future of humanity,” he said. “I don’t think we will survive another 1,000 years without escaping beyond our fragile planet.”

I do believe this man and have thought the same for a long time.

We need to move to a star trek society of one government and we all work for the common good of our species.

We have created a consumer society that must have an end point and evolve to something better. I don't like socialism but something that reward endeavour, enhances quality of life for the individual but is acting In the common interest of our planet and our species.

Other we will have a major regression to the stone age if we survive at all.

We only need one catastrophic event.....
- A killer disease
- A large impact from a rock from outer space
- War - nuclear - in the next 1000 years we will all have our own personal A-Bomb

If we don't survive.... well it would show the universe is better off without us.

You both sound like my husband.

It's all I hear from him every day.

Oh and he keeps going on about the importance of finding another habitat..another planet coz this one isn't gonna make it.

I listen quietly ....as my mind compares what he says with what the Holy Bible says.

It stacks up....unfortunately.

So I stay quiet....and reflect on why we bother bringing kids into this hell hole.

The world is overpopulated so there is bound to be an occurrence eventually which will wipe out many of us. As the article stated - it is not economically viable to plan 1000 years ahead - too few people care about tomorrow as it is. We should be looking after this planet instead of looking for another planet to destroy.

Most people have children for either selfish or instinctive reasons. If we thought seriously about their future and the world they might have to live in - we wouldn't have the population explosion we have now.

I have one child and thought very hard about it. Had her (well the missus did) late in life when we had the money to give her every opportunity in life.

I am for the one child policy. China got that one right .... well nearly.
The family planning policy, known as the one-child policy in the West,[1] is a population control policy of the People's Republic of China. The term "one-child" is inexact as the policy allows many exceptions and ethnic minorities are exempt. In 2007, 36% of China's population was subject to a strict one-child restriction;[2] an additional 53% was allowed to have a second child if the first was a girl.[3] The policy is enforced at the provincial level through fines that are imposed based on the income of the family and other factors. "Population and Family Planning Commissions" exist at every level of government to raise awareness and carry out registration and inspection work.[4]

The policy was introduced in 1978 and enacted on September 18th, 1980[5] to alleviate social, economic and environmental problems in China.[6] Demographers estimate that the policy averted at least 200 million births between 1979 and 2009.[7] A 2008 survey undertaken by the Pew Research Center reported that 76% of the Chinese population supports the policy;[8] however, it is controversial outside China for many reasons, including accusations of human rights abuses in the implementation of the policy, as well as concerns about negative social consequences.[9]

How Has Stephen Hawking Lived to 70 with ALS?

This in itself is a mystery as we know this disease is progressive.

I don't believe this poor wretch speaks for himself, and has done for quite some time, (regardless of programmable voice synthesizer) ....rather think he's become some creepy socialist sock puppet being exploited by warped leftard puppeteers with a globalist agenda.

Sorry, but everything about this man's alleged and progressive medical condition defies the laws of reality.

About ALS
Although the life expectancy of an ALS patient averages about two to five years from the time of diagnosis, this disease is variable and many people live with quality for five years and more.

A bit out of the ordinary dontcha think?

And the fact that they claim he can still communicate is nothing short of a miracle.

I dont believe in Miracles.

In fact, I question whether or not he truly has ALS, or if he's the victim of a brain injury which would explain his longevity.

Either way, i'm not buying the whole ALS and voice synthesiser bizo, much less his alleged genius and capacity to communicate since the 1980's for almost half a century with ALS after cheating death.

Who's really the vice behind Stephen Hawking I wonder? 8-)

The world is overpopulated.... oooh mantra must be a member of the "dreaded" Club of Rome.
All the world's population can be put into one cubic mile... do you still think we are overpopulated?

As for AiA's opening... talk about loaded... let's just limit it to Hawking or a Politician eh... both minorities of the very smallest kind, world population-wise.

Personally I don't believe most things Hawking says especially where it involves the planet, our species and the future. He's a Theoretical Physicist for chrisake.. (with a specialisation in Cosmology).
As for politicians well they vary widely on their personal beliefs etc.

Well with issues like this why wouldn't hawking be on the right track.

Half of all species on Earth could disappear by the end of this century
Close to half of all living species on the Earth could disappear by the end of this century, and humans will be the cause.

This is the Sixth Mass Extinction — a loss of life that could rival the die-out that caused the dinosaurs to disappear some 65 millions years ago after an asteroid hit the planet.

This time though, we’re the asteroid.

At least that's how Elizabeth Kolbert, the author of the book 'The Sixth Extinction,' sees it.

"We are deciding," Kolbert writes, "without quite meaning to, which evolutionary pathways will remain open and which will forever be closed. No other creature has ever managed this, and it will, unfortunately, be our most enduring legacy."

In 'The Sixth Extinction' Kolbert traces our understanding of extinction from the first time it was proposed as a theory in the 1740s until now, with scientists mostly agreeing that humans may be causing it.

Like someone else said, Stephen Hawkin's is no expert on climate & population.

This lefty socialist fearmongering is a load of garbage.
