Countries that still offer Aussies cheap holidays
Vietnam
Vietnam is becoming increasingly popular with Australians as a holiday destination, but the prices in the country haven’t caught up with its popularity even though the AUD has fallen slightly against the dong.
“I would say Vietnam is the best value travel destination for Aussies at the moment. You can get great airfares and luxury hotel packages, and eating, shopping and touring there is still great value. You can get a three course meal with drinks for two for about $10,” said Gorman.
South East Asia
The Australian dollar has only dropped a few cents against the currencies of Aussie favourite holiday destinations Thailand and Bali. However, because those destinations have been popular for so long, they can be quite pricey.
“Consider travelling to destinations such as Cambodia, Malaysia, Laos or even Myanmar for better value. South East Asia is so much more than Thailand and Bali, and there are so many picturesque beaches and so much history and culture to explore,” he said.
Greece, Italy and Spain
Europe is still affordable with many options to save money on both airfares and hotels, with the Aussie dollar slightly increasing its strength against the euro.
“Have you always dreamt of that wine and dine tour of Tuscany? Well, now is definitely the year to go,” Gorman said
Mexico
North America might be more expensive to travel to, but explore going south.
“Mexico has for a long time been a favourite hot spot for celebrities, and who can blame the A-list! The Yucatán Peninsula especially is just as picturesque as it looks and offers great diving for underwater enthusiasts,” he said.
Japan
The Aussie dollar has strengthened against the Yen, making Japan an even more attractive travel destination.
“Japan has everything — gorgeous scenery, amazing shopping and world class skiing. Go discover what thousands of Aussies have already fallen in love with,” he said.
UAE
Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates have never been cheap destinations to travel to, but with the AUD remaining pretty static towards the dirham, now might be the perfect time to fulfil your golden desert dream.
“Many flights stop in Dubai when flying to Europe, but both Dubai and Abu Dhabi are so much more than stopover-destinations — so take a few days out of your travel itinerary to explore the shopping and the sand dunes!” he suggests.
South Pacific Cruises
Why not discover the South Pacific on water? With an increasing number of cruise ships calling Australia home, the competition is fierce which helps keep the price of a cruise affordable.
“With most meals included, a cruise can certainly be a great value holiday on a budget,” Gorman explained.
Australia
Now is as good a time as any to discover our own backyard.
“People around the world dream of one day visit our beautiful shores, but it can be sometimes difficult to appreciate what you have got and take the time and the money to explore what’s under our very nose. So why not take this year to discover what Australia has to offer, from the wine counties to our famous underwater wonders,” Gorman suggested.

I don't get Aussies who travel to places with beaches like Honolulu or Cancun ... I mean, why would you want to travel to see what you can see back home?

I had a Canadian email friend who posted a "beach" which was almost black "sand" and rocks. I posted back a picture of one of Australia's (90 mile) beaches and said "THIS is a beach". Did the same to some English friends and their pebble beaches where you need to wear "plimsolls" to walk around in comfort.AiA in Atlanta wrote:I don't get Aussies who travel to places with beaches like Honolulu or Cancun ... Re: Travel - Holidays
Going to Canada makes sense for an Aussie who wants to see real mountains, forests and snow, or in the case of England, rain. But to travel from AUS just to lay on the beach ... I don't get it.

That part of North America is seeing record snowfalls. Boston will still have snow melting on the ground in June. It has been so bad the trains can hardly run. New England is used to snow but they have never seen anything like this.Black Orchid wrote:Christmas in Central Park might be my next trip.

I would like to travel around New England. It looks really pretty.
I love the snow and I have a cousin who lives in Lafayette, Indiana and he tells me that he has to shovel snow for 6-7 months of the year and it would soon wear thin if I had to live in it.

I don't know the American mid-West at all (Indiana is part of that). Like you, I just couldn't live with a place with lots of snow. Atlanta sees the rare snow fall and that is enuf for me.Black Orchid wrote:I would like to travel around New England. It looks really pretty.

I could happily live with lightish snow. Shovelling snow from the front door and pathways isn't really my idea of fun but neither is intense heat.
The older I get the more I dislike summer. I cannot wait for winter here in Aus.
