burning down the house

Have you ever considered if the relief would outweigh the loss?

If no lives were lost and there was a good insurance payout - yes I would be relieved.

We've probably all known people who have clung onto their possessions for dear life and put their importance ahead of nearly everything else, but when you see them dead - you can see what a farce of a life they've lived. We can't take anything with us when our time is up.

No. Never!

However, in 2003 when the bushfires came through Canberra and the sky was red and I had Fire Fighters walking down my street and we were all told to "pack a bag and be ready to evacuate" ......

I did consider what "could" happen. In the morning I found blackened gum leaves on my doormat so the "cinders" were flying around here.

I was fully Insured so I wasn't too worried about the financial side of things. It turned out that of the people who did lose their houses, 45% of them had no insurance! How stupid is that?

Answering your question about "burning down your house" I would imagine that is a Jail Term.

The house is probably the last thing I'd burn.

Plenty of stuff inside that I could happily do without, I guess. But then, a lot of brings back memories of time past, which makes it hard to toss.

Strange topic.
One I was going to avoid.
But then this popped into my head...

The only type of "burning down the house" I'd ever consider.
