Did Morrison pay Indonesia to stop the boats?

Post by Black Orchid » Tue Mar 10, 2015 1:52 pm

What our politicians haven’t fully grasped is the extent of Indonesian corruption and the fact they were never our friends. The more we appeal to Widodo the more fuel we give him to excite his adoring masses.

The Indonesians are smart, they knew that the endless boats they sent to us (800 of them) crammed with 50,000 illegal Islamic immigrants were costing us an unsustainable $6 billion a year.

They simply waited until a street-smart Scott Morrison came up with a lousy few million in cash... and suddenly the boats stopped. Or perhaps they just thought Mr Morrison was a nice bloke.

Simple solution so why hasn't anyone else done it?

Sorry but I love Larry Pickering most of the time

Rudd had actually slowed them down before the last election with his Manus Island solution. Morrison didn't have the full blown stampede which Gillard had so his job wasn't as difficult as the Coalition portrayed. It wouldn't surprise me if the Indonesian militia or whatever they call themselves were paid off to clean up the last few stragglers. The boats stopped very suddenly.

Still like the aftermath of the Howard government and the Pacific Solution - there have been relentless million dollar compensation claims for the illegal treatment of various asylum seekers from that era. A claim has already begun for those 20 plus Sri Lankans who were picked up at sea and sent straight back home. We might save some money by not housing them, but whatever we save looks like it could go in bribes and compensation.

Fear of litigation is not a sound reason to blindly accept the many tens of thousands who came/come here by boat and cost us many billions of dollars per year.

Of the Tamils who were kept at sea for a week or two (and are seeking compensation) the majority turned out not to have come from Sri Lanka or Afghanistan at all ... but from India.

Whatever..... Australia should probably stop all ... or at least cut it back, drastically ... financial "aid" for the Indonesian area. Heads like mice and we don't need them here, sponging off our Welfare system.

What sort of "military" do the Indonesians have? If we did tell them to piss off, what would happen? Would they bomb Darwin and FNQ before the US of A came to our rescue, again?

I am sure I will be brought up to scratch by some informative males around here. :thumb

PS. I am willing to learn but generally, "guns, armies and stuff" do not compete with clothes, shoes and perfume.

Yet another typical slackjawed response from you Roach. The boats had started slowing down since July 2013. At least be honest and give some credit where it's due. The Coalition's stance may have been the final nail in the coffin for the asylum seekers, but it would have been impossible for Morrison to stop the boats so quickly if Rudd's policy wasn't taking effect.
Since the Coalition was sworn in on September 18, 7 boats carrying about 350 people have arrived and been transferred to immigration authorities, according to the government's official updates.

''I can say to you with great confidence, my friends, they are stopping. They are stopping and they will be stopped,'' Mr Abbott said.

But Mr Marles told Fairfax Media that former prime minister Kevin Rudd's decision in July to send asylum seekers to Papua New Guinea and pledge not resettle any boat arrivals in Australia had been a ''game changer''.

Mr Marles added that in the month after the policy was announced, there was a 40 per cent reduction in arrivals.

Rudd had nothing to do with it. :du :du :du

He did however open the floodgates that were closed.

Would you like to refute her statistics, or just continue to shout "bullshit" at her, like some demented tourettes sufferer?

It is bullshit. At that time even the illegal immigrants knew that the ALP were fucked so they weren't buying the product. That's why they stopped.

It so good you are still here boxy. Laughing at Mantras idiocy gets tiresome but you are always there as a solid backup to poke your head up in the easiest wack-a-mole game in existence.

What was that Troll?

Even Rudd apologist state that the slight change in boat arrivals could not be attributed to his policy change.
:du :du :du :du :du
Looking for it? Check the Fairfax media articles.
I can't be bothered to again.
