We ALL think that our Local Governments are not worth a piece of shit ...

This isn't about our local Council it's about a NSW state sell off. Sure the local guy will miss out on votes and probably through no fault of his own. Too bad.

I refuse to pay billions in profit to the Chinese when it should stay in NSW.

Who says the current Baird? Government (I am not up on NSW/Sydney politics) is selling stuff to the Chinese? Is there definite proof of this?

The last time I was in Sydney, many long years ago, to wander around the City, I was amazed at how many "Asians" I saw ..... it is undoubtedly worse now.

Personally I don't believe that any public assets that are part of essential services should be sold off to private enterprise.

Private companies run essential assets far better than the government and the result is cheaper bills and more reliable infrastructure. Anyone who 'believes' differently is misinformed or already has their snout in the trough.

Why? Wouldn't you like Faux Fax or Murdoch owning your Electricity Company? You'd prefer the NSW State Government running it? Government run "utilities" run at a loss, don't they?

What Government-owned public assets run at a profit? Or even balance the books? None.

Do the trains and buses run on time and make a profit? Nope. How many Council workers go out to fix a hole in a suburban road, 5? 6?

I recall ringing the Council (when I lived in Sydney) to have a dead tree removed. It was a mere Melalueuca suckling that they always planted on nature strips ... but had died and looked untidy. A day or so later a truck with 6 "workers" turned up. One drove the truck, another had a shovel, a third seemed to be "supervising" a fourth put the removed tree on the truck, the fifth planted the new little tree and the 6th had a watering can. I kid you not!

I believe that less Government is better. Don't tell me that the Rates we pay are used to "fix stuff". More likely they are used to pay useless, shiny bums and shovel leaners.

It was the largest electricity utility in NSW.
Government owned and run companies can do just fine.
In fact they help regulate and control prices when run properly and responsibly.

AUSTRALIAN electricity consumers financed a report on electricity costs prepared by the consultancy CME and managed by UnitingCare.

The report has once again demonstrated how Victorians have benefited from the Kennett/Stockdale electricity privatisations of the 1990s. Aside from raising $29 billion to rescue the state from the preceding ALP Government’s spending excesses, this created a leaner, lower cost industry.

The CME analysis shows Victoria’s electricity poles and wire charges were less than half those of the government-owned NSW and Queensland suppliers.

Even among Victoria’s two rural suppliers, Powercor and Ausnet, where dispersed populations mean higher costs, customers benefit from prices that are 30 per cent lower than in Brisbane. The advantage for customers in Melbourne is even greater.

These results are consistent with an Ernst and Young report issued last year which showed that since privatisation, Victoria’s prices per user have risen $437 less than in NSW and $200 less than in Queensland.

The privately owned supply businesses’ lower prices stem from a sharper focus on controlling operating costs and in them avoiding excessive investment costs.

The Victorian electricity network owners provide significantly higher levels of reliability than their government-owned counterparts in Queensland and NSW.

You don't pay millions in dividends if you aren't making a profit.

Roach is just bitter he didn't end up with his snout in the trough and a job for life doing sweet fuck all. He doesn't care about everyone paying more for their electricity as long as he's looked after. He may be unemployed but at least his power bill is less expensive than it would have been.
