If he's going to resign it should be for a reason... either leaving politics, starting his own party or joining Labor.

He's one of the few effective Ministers Abbott has...

No reason for him to resign and if he were sacked I think that would just widen the cracks that already exist to the point of no return and for quite some time to come. They would all turn on each other and that's an ALP trait and not what we should expect to see from the Liberals.
