I didn't think an Order of Australia was a knighthood and the Queen had to be consulted before anyone was appointed. The right were angry with Abbott too when he reintroduced Sirs and Dames. There has to be a difference to an Order of Australia and being knighted.

It's needed for balance and egalitarianism. Can you imagine if Abbott hadn't been pulled up on this what direction he would take this country.
