ABC childcare was a private business not government you moron.
Now you are twisting the truth - so does that mean you're lying? The Coalition stripped most of the community day care centres of their funding. Many of them were forced to close. Money was being given away to every man and his dog, so an incompetent started buying all the centres up.

That's what Howard did best - strip funding from many public and community services and encouraged privatisation and as a consequence too many of them went bust. Labor started building these services up again - now Abbott is dismantling them yet again.
No mantra I'm right YOU are wrong ABC was a private company not government... now who lied and who was confused or ignorant?
Not every ABC has anything to do with the ABC you know. :rofl :rofl :rofl
ABC Learning was an Australian company that was once the world's largest provider of early childhood education services. It was listed on the Australian Securities Exchange with its market capitalisation reaching A$2.5 billion in March 2006. The company went into administrative receivership after a fallout from the subprime mortgage crisis caused debt repayments to overwhelm the company, and the auditors failed to sign off on the financial reports citing the need to recast previous year's reported profits.
Critics of ABC Learning said it was making considerable profits at the expense of Australian taxpayers whose money subsidised the use of childcare with means-tested tax rebates. In addition, the peak body for community-based childcare services in NSW, Community Child Care Co-operative (NSW), argued the profits of ABC Learning were built upon inequitable low staff wages and cost-cutting, which was detrimental to the quality of education and care, and that the business model would not be sustainable.
The company was under investigation by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission.
It was, as we now know, all an incredible sham. The business was in financial turmoil and its founder Eddy Groves is still under economic and legal scrutiny.

Bill Shorten looks so far out of his depth it looks like he is going to burst into tears every time he garners enough courage to face the media. His colleagues already have the knife drawer open for him, its only a matter of time now before the labor circus is in full swing again.

Don't tell porkies about what I did and didn't say. I didn't say ABC Childcare was run by the government, however, they benefited greatly from all the community day care centres which were forced to close when federal funding was cut. They didn't just buy up 1200 empty buildings and start from scratch.

Read this and don't lie when you refer to something I posted.

2012
This past week marked the fourth anniversary of the appointment of voluntary administrators Ferrier Hodgson to childcare company ABC Learning, after its stunning public collapse in 2008.

With structural changes aiming to improve the quality of early childhood education and care (the National Quality Framework) beginning to roll out this year and a campaign to improve the wages of early childhood educators making news, it's a timely anniversary.

ABC Learning was at one time the largest publicly traded childcare operator in the world, at its peak worth $4.1 billion.

It was regularly held up as a shining example of the "free-market" approach to providing early education and care. Its more than 1200 centres (including centres in New Zealand) were used as evidence of the success of John Howard's changes to the sector — removing the subsidy from service operators and channeling it directly to families.

Ah yes the hairs breath between Shorten and Turnbull.. both apparently republicans.
Bill Shorten uses Australia Day eve speech to renew Australian republic debate
Date January 25, 2015 - 3:32PM
James Massola
Political correspondent

Opposition Leader Bill Shorten has urged Australians to support an Australian republic and head of state, arguing it would reflect the nation's "modern identity, our place in our region and our world".

In an Australia Day eve speech to mark the launch of a new book titled Mateship, by author Nick Dyrenfurth, Mr Shorten also called for constitutional recognition of the First Australians and a mature debate about Australia's place in the world, and about the nation's history.

The opposition leader said that just 114 years ago, "Australians found the courage and goodwill to transform this continent into a Commonwealth, in the 21st Century, let us live up to their example – let us declare that our head of state should be one of us".

"Let us rally behind an Australian republic – a model that truly speaks for who we are: our modern identity, our place in our region and our world," he said. :WTF

In a subsequent press conference, Mr Shorten said that while he was not yet pushing for a second referendum on the proposal, after 16 years it was time for a debate on national identity. :du

"I think what we should do is have that discussion with people. Not one with acrimony or politics or finger pointing, but do we in the 21st century think we should have an Australian head of state?" he said.

"It can't just be a debate between A-list celebrities; it has to be something which all Australians are engaged in."

Mr Shorten also said that while Australia Day should be celebrated, it was important that Australians also confronted the lows and tragedies of Australian history, such as the Myall Creek massacre. Wow did that happen on Australia Day?

"I don't think shirking it with the great Australian silence solves anything. We need to recognise our history."

Mateship, he said, "reminds us of a timeless truth: real patriots don't try and justify or excuse their nation's flaws and failings and anachronisms – they get on and fix them. True patriots don't shrink from historical truth – they welcome it, they learn from it. True patriots know that until a nation includes everyone – in its history, in its society, in its economy – then there is always more to do." Ah yes then why does Labor and The Greens seek so often to create divisions amongst Australian.

The opposition leader said Australians were tired of people "claiming victory in the 'history wars' - as if the Australian story has to be fought 'to the last man and the last footnote'."

"We gain nothing from boiling down our history to a bland mish-mash myth of the Rum Rebellion and Burke and Wills, Bodyline and the stump-jump plough, the Victa Mower and Olympic gold. There is nothing wrong with celebrating those moments and achievements – but it is wrong to pretend that they represent the limit of our national capabilities – or our national ambitions."

And he criticised Prime Minister Tony Abbott's assertion late last year, when welcoming UK Prime Minister David Cameron to the parliament, that former prime minister John Howard had settled the debate about Australia's place in the world. Someone get Bill a map. :du

"No leader can 'end' a conversation about our nation's sense of self. No leader can 'settle' the question of Australia's global role and responsibilities. And no leader should take pride in trying.

The book traces the history of 'mateship" in Australia, with Mr Shorten describing it as a "celebration of our national character".

But Mr Shorten also noted the book acknowledged that Australian 'mateship' had rarely included everyone", noting for example that at the turn of the 20th century, the Australian Workers Union was open to all workers but at the same time say: "No Chinese, Japanese, Kanakas, Afghans or coloured aliens."

"The fact is, mateship has not always been there when our nation, our people needed it. After all, where was mateship at Myall Creek? Or at Lambing Flat? Where was mateship when governments and institutions worked together to take children from their mothers – because the mother was unmarried, or black?" Good grief...

I must confess... I was once an AWU union delegate and blushed (felt embarrassed for Bill Shorten) when the rambunctious overzealous Americaphile recited each and every American state in reverse alphabetical order at an ATS (Australian Traffic Services) BBQ function to impress members.

He was known as show-bag Shorten back then, and I believe nothing's changed.

The only difference was he had Debbie Beale at his side then, not the pregnant junior staffer whore GG Bryce's daughter Chloe.

Is he a rapist?

Not so sure about that, doubt if he had it in him to be perfectly Frank... but he was a womaniser and liked himself quite a lot back then.

As he does now.

He's a republican,,,, Malcolm Fraser and Turnbull probably cream at the thought of Shorten being elected.

I know Shorten does.

Well Bill and co have been telling lots of porkies since the election.
his latest...
The claim: Opposition Leader Bill Shorten claims the Federal Government has cut $1 billion from childcare.

The verdict: Labor has detailed over $1 billion in cuts to childcare programs, but the list includes $336 million in programs where overall spending is increasing and $95 million in programs that were due to expire. What's more, some of the money Labor claims has been cut was redirected to other child care programs. Mr Shorten's claim is overreach.
