I don't think this attitude was personal for Hanson - just a populist issue at the time which won the party a million votes. No wonder the major parties were scared and needed to shut her up.

.... To be a pollie you seem to have to be a show off with a gift of the gab ... much like a Real Estate Agent or a Used Car Salesman ........ only they end up with a massive Pension for life. That is probably the attraction to politics.

Gift of the gab is certainly a critical requisit.

The salary isn't that great, if they really wanted to be Lawyers, they could have done a LOT better in the Real World. It's the Pension for Life and they don't have to be a sitting pollie for any length of time, either.

That's where we differ. I think the fact our PM is paid more than the US Presiden and the British PM is proof positive our pollies are way over paid. Then there's the perks, the parliamentary pension at 75% of their pollie wage, irrespective of what occupation and income they get after politics, and a massive superannuation payout to ratchet up our debt.

As for Pauline Hanson per se, while she had no political nous, the reason so much of the electorate liked her is because she was game enough to say what she believes. Whether she was right or wrong is beside the point.. It was intellectually masturbating journos who didn't like her at took every opportunity available the cast her as a foolish/stupid uneducated git. But "Please explain" resonated with ordinary Joes.
