I mean it seems to me like in the community there are the thick people and the smart people. Most I see at these lefty protests all the time are just quietly very thick. I don't get the constant anger people like that have. It is like, I don't earn mega bucks so people that do, owe me so I am going to moan and join a union and carry on stupid because I want it on a bloody plate.
My view is that many of us start a little to the left and move more right as we age and see what is going on with our money.

Some stay entrenched for philosophical reasons (that is noble) and others to get a nice easy life without working too hard (selfish). They turn very quickly to the right once they have some capital and start accumulating a little wealth.

I have met many smart lefties with strong ideological views supporting their opinions. I have many many more who just feel they deserve a lifestyle that someone else should fund. These paint the leftie is slow.... their thought leaders are not.

Reminds me of a mouse tbh. The Greens as a party , we need them don't we; for all the environmental stuff ? The only problem is there are some Greens reps who are just so rabid and far left, it steals from their "living in the real world" actuality/ credibilty. I am all for environment etc as well and I call myself a green rather than not at all....but some of the things you see written by a greenie is just way out of left field, this lets them down in the end. Mantra is a unashamed Greens supporter. She hopes one day to see The Greens in a position of power ( her devotion is very sweet), esp now with old growth forests and the Reef under threat..but I doubt that will happen in the near future- down the track a bit- I don't see why not.
Name one Greens Senator who has been caught with his hands in the till using taxpayers' money to enhance his or her personal lifestyle?

You don't have to like all of the Greens' policies, but at least you know what you're getting unlike the lying self serving capitalists from the major parties who don't give a stuff about live exports or digging up every inch of dirt in the country and destroying anything that has got a dollar sign attached to it.

The Greens shouldn't have done a deal with Labor back in 2010. Senator Brown got in too deep and the murkier it got - the more disillusioned he became. He was definitely not a hard enough man for the job. He was forced to compromise his values and left for that very reason.

I have never wanted the Greens running the country. They are better served keeping the major parties honest.

Black Orchid wrote:The Greens lost their way years ago.
TWO founding fathers of the Greens say the split between the old-school environmentalists and the new generation of ideologically driven urban activists now swelling the parliamentary ranks could destabilise the party and alienate voters.

The man who gave up his seat in the Tasmanian parliament 29 years ago to launch Bob Brown's political career, Norm Sanders, said the Greens had "lost the plot" by shifting away from their core business of the environment.

And Queenslander Drew Hutton, who co-founded the party in 1992 with Senator Brown, hit out at the "ludicrous" decision by the NSW division of the Greens to thumb its nose at federal policy and back an international trade boycott of Israel in the recent state election campaign.

"I just shake my head in wonder at why a state-based party would go into an election pushing out front of a federal issue that the state party has no reason to be concerned with," said Mr Hutton, 64. "Why would you be profiling issues above environmental issues at this particular time? . . . I don't think it helps to alienate significant groups inside the NSW voting public."

Mr Sanders, 78, said scathingly that the Greens were now "concerned with everything except the environment".

"You hear them going on about the tax system, same-sex marriage, adoption, all these social equity issues, but they don't talk about the environment much," he said.
There is some truth in that article, but unfortunately the only way to get anything through legislation is to make compromises with the major parties. The Greens can't afford to be too radical. Times have changed and parties have to adapt if they are to survive. They have maintained a steady 10% for years and although that figure is nothing to boast about - they are certainly not going backwards. With the amount of negative propaganda circulating, not only from the major parties, but the media also, it's obvious they are still considered a threat, but they continue to battle on. The major parties would love to see the Greens disappear into oblivion, but there is no sign of that.

Who knows what the future will hold? I'm not enamoured with Milne, but hopefully when she eventually steps down - the next leader will be strong and capable. Milne isn't doing too badly. She's holding her own and isn't afraid to speak out.

7% is not an average. From memory it was a one off in a WA election and that's hardly surprising. If they were not a threat - then the major parties wouldn't be running around constantly badmouthing them. They would ignore them and write them off as insignificant.
