Pistorius' lenient sentence

Post by mantra » Wed Oct 22, 2014 6:56 am

What a joke. Does anyone believe that this bloke didn't deliberately murder his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp? The Judge has imposed a five year sentence only, which means Pistorius could be out in 5 months. What sort of message is this sending to ordinary South Africans? Certainly not a fair one as the Judge is claiming.
In delivering her decision, 67-year-old Masipa stressed the difficulty of arriving at a decision that was "fair and just to society and to the accused".

She also rebuffed suggestions that Pistorius - a wealthy and influential white man - might be able to secure preferential justice despite the "equality before law" guarantee enshrined in the post-apartheid 1996 constitution.

"It would be a sad day for this country if an impression were created that there is one law for the poor and disadvantaged, and one law for the rich and famous," she said.

Well I though 5 years was about right considering Murder was not proved. that was the figure I was betting on. However... that would be 5 years in prison without parole.

He comes across as a spoilt little rich boy who can dish it out, but can't take it. Ten months is ridiculous so it's no surprise he didn't appeal this. He's being put in the hospital where he'll be protected and coddled, rather than the main gaol, where his money should keep him very comfortable during his stay.

He might not have been convicted of murder - but his story is unbelievable, to the masses anyway.

Don't know and don't care.

My opinion, however, is that Pistorius is guilty as sin.

The Judge said ...
“It would be a sad day for this country if an impression was created that there is one law for the poor and disadvantaged and another for the rich and famous,” she said.
Isn't that what she, herself, created?

Money speaks! It happens elsewhere in the World as well. Absolutely, NOTHING we can do about it.

If it wasn't for the global interest and his celeb status the would have gotten off or not served time.

That's what a few South Africans have told me.

Rich and powerful do not do time in RSA.

He got 5 years as a token gesture for appearances sake. be out in 10 ,months.

I really haven't taken too much notice of it. He (allegedly) shot his girlfriend through a bathroom door (where she was, allegedly, hiding). She DIED. He KILLED HER.

NOTHING can bring her back.

LAWYERS are VETERAN LIARS ...... they will say whatever to "win" the case. This is what we are taught.

SUCH IS LIFE!

Not many OFFENDERS get off. :b

Quite true, it happens, but we CAN offer our opinions surely?
