There goes the last of our free speech. Journalists have had so many restrictions placed on them now - they may as well get the government's media agency to give them sole directions on what goes to print and what doesn't.

Most of the time we don't have a clue what this government is doing anyway - now ASIO will have unfettered power to do whatever they please and we won't know a thing about it. When innocent people get caught up in their cowboy antics and shot - no-one can report it. Don't dob them in either - whistleblowers will be jailed.

ASIO can break every one of our criminal laws and the perpetrators will be free from prosecution. Great job you're doing Abbott. These laws will ensure you stay in power for the next couple of decades. The media won't be able to report anything which could be detrimental to this government's regime.

New laws set to be passed by Canberra this week will make it a crime for the media to disclose the death of an innocent bystander caught up in a bungled covert spy agency operation, the government's dumped independent national security legislation monitor has warned.

It comes as shadow attorney-general Mark Dreyfus told ABC TV that he could not be "absolutely certain" journalists or whistleblowers disclosing bungled operations publicly would not face up to 10 years' jail.

"I can't be absolutely certain but what I can be certain of is that Labor is going to be monitoring how these provisions work in practice, and I'd stress again, we are talking about quite a small number of operations that are ever likely to be special intelligence operations," Mr Dreyfus said on Tuesday

Under the new laws, Australian Security Intelligence Organisation officers will now have greater immunity from prosecution if they commit a crime in the course of a "special intelligence operation

Indeed. Now it's a much better tactic to make up some conspiracy bullshit story with absolutely no basis in truth, because if you report on actual factual bullshit that the intelligence services get up to, you're going to jail.

It doesn't matter if you can prove your claims, or if you can argue it's in the public interest to know what the fuck our spooks are doing. Go directly to jail, do not pass go, do not collect $200.
