Shorten cannot go to the next election as leader of the ALP.

His poor performance coupled to rape allegations that have not been fully explored makes him unworthy as a contender and the ALP know it.

The right don't want Albanese, no matter what, so the next contender will be who the right of the ALP throw up.

You could pick anyone out of a hat to replace Shorten. Of course Tanya Plibersek would be the obvious answer, but it will be centuries before Australia would accept another female primeminister.

The question you should be asking is who should replace Abbott. I just listened to his inarticulate mumblings for a few minutes where he repeated himself at least three times after every question simply because he doesn't have the answers. You could fall asleep waiting for his next answer.

Alan Jones asked him why school children now have been ordered not to wear their cadet uniforms. Abbott stuttered out his usual almost unintelligible response about people being safe to go about their daily activities. What a joke. Abbott scares half the country with his dire warnings about terrorists hiding under our beds and then pretends he's our reassuring guardian angel who's keeping our country safe.

Maybe we should all start wearing burqas to confuse the terrorists.

A private school in Sydney has ordered students not to wear their cadet uniforms in public as a precaution in the wake of the heightened security threat.

Would love to think so Skippy.. but atm the ALP have no idea..I can't believe how much of an idea they don't have. There is no one there that inspires any confidence at all.

As for Abbotts climate of fear he is merely employing he oldest trick in the book....control the masses through fear, an imagined threat.. a dumb elecorate blindly swallowing all this hype and imagined danger will take him right through this election , he will add ebola into the mix and the dumbest and most dangerous PM in Australian history will dine out on this for years to come . And as Keating said "if Tony Abbot becomes he leader of this country-- God help us"!!

Abbott probably thinks it worked for Howard so why not him.
The polls have been against Abbott for nearly a year now I think he could be a one termer as long as nothing major happens like a terror strike in OZ. His polls have had a jump due to the current terror campaign so it does help the incumbent.
Labor are not ahead in the polls because Shorten is a good leader it's because Abbott is a bad one. Labor probably can't afford to dump Shorten or it just looks like more of the same as we had during Rudd and Gillard.
