I have to say Skip, I do not see Rudd's personal appeal. He is stiff, his speech is rehearsed, and he is a policy wonk, not a real Joe, or Jack. I would not buy insurance from the guy.

And you had better hope it is about policy and not personality, because this is a personality that can be beat.

I just think Rudd looked safe enough to the punters to give him a go,now he's there and incumbency in Australia means a lot.
I agree about the personality but you need someone to beat it and the Libs dont have that someone.

Yeah, he is a nerd. But people like him. He has his little tricks: "shitstorm" or "fair shake of the sauce bottle" that are obviously not part of his lexicon but he does use them successfully.

The Fibs have big problems demographically: their support among women is like 10% lower than it normally is--think Rudd appeals to women? Not sex appeal I would think but appeal to their maternal instinct or something? The other problem is their biggest age cohort is the over 60s, esp among retirees, the pre-Boomer generation. This generation is dying off, taking their high Fib/Nuts support with them. WTF do you think Howard irresponsibly scattered favors to this demographic, favors that made it hard to increase the aged pension?

Apart from these, the Fibs have no Leader: Neither Malcolm, Costello, Hockey, Abbott etc have any appeal, esp Malcolm who shot himself in the foot with utegate. Add to this the probs of a recovery from the GFC and the coalitionf is in BIG trouble. They have no policies either.

Why does the Left always need a leader rather than ideas?

Oh help me great Leader, save me and feed me apple sauce through a tube when I get old.

Actually, the Leader thing is more a Fib trait.

I still think his greatest appeal was that he wasn't Howard. Now it's time for him to stop being just that. It won't last forever and the Libs will get their act together one day.
