Time for a Mini Budget?

Post by Rorschach » Mon Aug 18, 2014 11:24 pm

The Budget has gone down like a lead balloon.
The Treasurer seen chomping on cigars with fellow Liberal Mathias Cormann is just the wrong image.
Telling us the "Age of Entitlement is Over" well at least for the unemployed underclass is just hypocrisy.
And even though it may be true that really poor people don't own cars and probably don't travel far (unless they have to of course) so they won't be hit by the petrol excise as much... is just the wrong way of looking at it, especially when the right way clearly shows that on average poor people have a larger percentage of their earnings going on petrol even before they get hit by an increase.

The longer the government lingers on this budget the smellier it will get.

Is it time to cut and run and follow the calls for a mini budget.

Well, a minibudget will be handed down in Dec.

The Kouk shows the blow out in the defict:

Not many options left, not the way they were going about it. But there are many savings they can make:

1. Stop people using super to avoid tax—that will cost $50Bn next year!

2. Stop negative gearing

3. Tighten FBT

4. Tighten the asset and income test for the Age Pension—no asset millionaires on the pension.

5. Increase ATO staffing, bring in special expertise and start cracking down on large companies evading company tax

6. Hey, here is an idea—introduce an ETS and a Mibneral Resource Rent tax :rofl

7. Take back payroll tax from the states, apply it properly and uniformly, share the revenue with the states

8. Undo the last two income tax cuts to top two brackets. With the mining boom phase 1 over those cuts are no longer affordable

Plenty scope there. Hokey should have a quiet talk with Swan on how to proceed and how to cope with an incompetent PM (Rudd & Abbott.)

Of course nothing like that will happen, Hokey will keep talking down the economy and deflation and recession will soon stalk this unhappy land.

Correct Monk. The mid year one is almost on us, and it will be a spectacular piece of political gymnastics if Abbott/Hockey gets out of it unscathed. There are endless comments made by Abbott where he said that any difficulty he experiences after September, 2013 will have nothing to do with what he inherited, and I do hope Roach challenges me on that.

Yeah—refer you to my cognitive dissonance post which is looking spot on.

For what is happening, how recession is beginning to stalk the land and how NZ is fairing under a rightwing but not neoconservative arsehat govt:

But good to know you are still trying to record and stalk visitors, its a good warning to people to avoid it.
