PB had speculated on this, ABC TV just more or less confirmed it.
Gretch, who worked in PM&C under Howard, apparently moved to a less good job in Treasury after the election. From there he fed internal govt information/decisions to the Fibs incl Turdbull. That could result in jail time for Gretch! Not an innocent public servant!
Gretch has been watched for some time.
And, ahahahahaha, Sheepy felt sorry for Gretch! Sheepy really does get stuff 100% wrong!

Turdbull must have known the email was fake, yet he still went ahead. I think there was one (more) miscalculation there: Julia was in the US & Israel (or enroute to Israel) at the time. Julia is acknowledged as a gun of immense bore, capable of landing the heaviest of shells right into the Fib trenches with deadly accuracy. So here is my 'hmmm'
Did Turdbull think that without Julia Ruddy would be incapable of fighting back???
Kevin knew that this unfounded allegation of corruption had to be squashed quick smart. Rudd, Tanner, Swan, Albanese et al, wearing the steel toed boots proved themselves more than capable of mounting a counterattack. So labor has a huge depth of talent on its front 9and back) bench.
