Australian musician, Megan Washington, took Qantas to court over issues of copyright and reputation

AUSTRALIAN musician, Megan Washington, has settled her long-running dispute with Qantas however the airline maintains it was never in the wrong.

The ARIA award winning artist took legal action against Qantas last year seeking $500,000 in damages for its alleged unauthorised use of a recording of her singing “I Still Call Australia Home” at the airline’s 90th anniversary party in 2010.

The singer believed the airline had broken copyright laws and affected her reputation by using the video on its website, YouTube channel and during in-flight entertainment.
I've no idea what Megan's version sounds like but Peter Allen did the original rendition.

No idea wht it sounds like but they used her song and effectively replayed it many times by putting it on youtube and on the inflight entertainment system.

A clear breach of copyright.

They should pay. they should know better.

if they played it at the party, made no recording or did not make it so public, it would have been fine. Then using it in a promotion video on the planes... one step too far.

I agree, Qantas was at fault. However, Qantas has use that song as their "theme song" for eons. I presume they got permission off Peter Allen or his "estate" as he is long gone.

Here is one of their ads.
