Costello to quit

Post by skippy » Mon Jun 15, 2009 2:55 pm

Wow, this will send the Libs into meltdown mode, Costello has been giving mixed mesages for months and I think many Libs and their supporters thought he'd be around to pick up the pieces when Turnbull falls.
At least Turnbull is happy, but it wont last long before somebody else is touted to topple him.

"FORMER Federal Liberal treasurer Peter Costello has revealed he will leave politics at the next federal election.

"I have informed my electorate committee that I will not nominate for re-election as the Member for Higgins,'' he said.

Costello used his personal website to reveal he will not re-nominate for the Melbourne seat of Higgins, which he has held since the 1991 election.

“Over the course of the last 18 months many constituents - and Australians from all over the country - have urged me to re-nominate. I have enjoyed the complete support of my Electorate Committee and the Liberal Party organisation in this regard,’’ he said.

“Nevertheless my view is, as it was in November 2007, that it is time for me to pursue other interests and it is in the long term interest of the Liberal Party for others of ability and integrity to step forward and represent it.

"I wish our Party and its leaders - Malcolm Turnbull and Julie Bishop - every success in the next election. I pay tribute to the work done by Brendan Nelson in the difficult aftermath of the 2007 election loss."

The Smirk from Higgins, Pouty Pete Costello, is NOT renominating for Higgins.

I predicted he would leave March last year but, I suppose, the lack of any job offers from industry, he will stay out his term.

No Pouty Pete Prime Ministership, not that that was ever likely.

Bye, lousy treasurer and credulous invertebrate tool.

Heh, in the real world Fib MPs knew Pouty Pete had to go:
PETER Costello has become a permanently destabilising influence within the Liberal Party and should get out of politics unless he's prepared to run for the leadership or rule out mounting a challenge, a growing number of Liberal MPs believe.

Word portrait fleshed out on an easel by a dimwit:
Costello was a good man who worked hard for this country and did some amazing things with the economy. Very smart.

Unfortunate that a dud such as Howard got to take the credit, and then he was overlooked for the leadership by Turnbull, a man who is very rich, worked for the big banks who are trying to sell this countries infrastructure off.

Good thing to be said about Turnbull though is he stood up to Kerry Packer, a man who they say was involved in such things as murder, high level corruption, drug trafficking and perhaps even paedophilia.

Turnbull seems alright because of that. Perhaps there is more to Costello than meets the eye?
Maybe there is less to Costello than meets the eye?

Heh, Sheepy really is crushed, poor lil guy :) how does it go again? nerr nerr nerr nerrrrr

Maybe Pouty Pete saw this:

ALP 57:43 Essential Research. After Roy Morgan 57.5:42.5
http://blogs.crikey.com.au/pollytics/fi ... 150609.pdf

Probably the employment & GDP data showed his one chance of oozing spinelessly into the PM's seat, the so-called Rudd Recession, was not going to appear, that the Rudd govt is handling the GFC superbly. Turdbull had a huge smile on his face today paying homage to Pouty Pete's (non)achievements, he was so relieved at having the destabilising influence (that was all that was left of PP's leadership ambitions) of PP removed he stuffed up the announcement :)

63% think Labor is doing a good job managing the economy. Optimism the economy will get better has lifted.

Just imagine Howard & Costello were still there as PM/Treas. Hehehehe Howard would be saying he couldn't leave as PM now, the country needs him :) We would be up shit creek in a barb wire canoe by now!

Eat shit Andrew Bolt, the very shit that Costello placed nicely on your tongue because you had it so far up his arse.

Bolt's constant embarrassing assertions that everything Costello did or said was an indication he was about to take the Liberal leadership has now blown up nicely in his face. Now he can shut the fuck up and go back to doing what he does best - bagging public schools.

Fuck if I had a wanker like Bolt publicly trying to score brownies with me, I'd retire too.
