Joe wants us to retire at 70.
Joe, Joe, Joe, i never thought you guys would be a 1 term government... until now.
Your ideas re "the age of entitlement" are getting more unrealisic as time goes on.
Be good to see all those arthritic 69 year old brickies waiting for the big 70 to arrive, or 69 year old coppers arresting ME criminals or pulling over bikies etc, etc, etc....
Now union bashing and unemployed bashing, and pensioner bashing just has to stop. Some people are on pensions because they need to be. People on Newstart live in poverty.
It's time you joined the real world, time to live like those people you seem so clueless about.

It's a bit unrealistic - especially for those who've had a lifetime of manual work to continue working well into their 60's, but still there have been hints from both parties that this day would be coming.Rorschach wrote:Joe, Joe, Joe, i never thought you guys would be a 1 term government... until now.

Austerity measures are definitely on the agenda. The excuse is government debt, but whether we pay it off or not - we're still going to be owned by foreigners. Hockey is right though - our current welfare bill is unsustainable, especially as the economy is showing definite signs of weakness and unemployment is expected to rise due to huge layoffs.
Funny how there are signs of improvement in the US economy - yet we're headed in the opposite direction. Maybe we should print some money? It seems to have worked for them, although their wages are half that of ours. That's the next step for us - lowering wages.
A first world nation can't afford a third world economy - so we have to compromise.

Austerity measures are definitely on the agenda. Puhlease leave Monk where he belongs... The excuse is government debt, a reality thanks to 6 years of Labor... but whether we pay it off or not - we're still going to be owned by foreigners. Please facts not fiction. Hockey is right though - our current welfare bill is unsustainable, especially as the economy is showing definite signs of weakness and unemployment is expected to rise due to huge layoffs. Caused by? Clue... not this government,
Funny how there are signs of improvement in the US economy - really, yet from all reports it is still going up and down.. yet we're headed in the opposite direction. Are we? you heard that where? Maybe we should print some money? It seems to have worked for them, Good grief good way to devalue the dollar... although their wages are half that of ours. Ah, that is all relative to their cost of living... That's the next step for us - lowering wages. Big business wouldn't mind. But high wages are also paid overseas.
A first world nation can't afford a third world economy - so we have to compromise. We are not a 3rd world economy... yet, but Labor did try really hard to get us there.

I've got no idea. Labor?Rorschach wrote:Who raised the pension age to 67?It's a bit unrealistic - especially for those who've had a lifetime of manual work to continue working well into their 60's, but still there have been hints from both parties that this day would be coming.
Regardless of the money they spent - Labor did keep the economy ticking over. We didn't suffer the way so many other nations did, although in retrospect - maybe we should have and we wouldn't be hit with a double whammy now.Puhlease leave Monk where he belongs... You don't think the baby bonus, immunisation bonuses, family tax benefits and full pensions to self funded retirees who can get their cluey accountants to limit their earnings to $80,000 pa each hasn't exacerbated this problem? You can't blame Labor for that. Look at the uproar when Gillard introduced means testing and reduced the single parents pension for those who had children over eight. Labor were never generous with welfare. The previous Coalition government is also responsible for the huge increase in the DSP. Towards the end - every man and his dog was put on it. It made the unemployment figures look better for the Coalition.Caused by? Clue... not this government,Hockey is right though - our current welfare bill is unsustainable, especially as the economy is showing definite signs of weakness and unemployment is expected to rise due to huge layoffs.
It's been on the news recently. Their trade figures have improved and manufacturing is finally taking off again. Yes it's a bit unsteady, but moving upwards.really, yet from all reports it is still going up and down.. yet we're headed in the opposite direction. Are we? you heard that where?Funny how there are signs of improvement in the US economy -
If our economy was in good shape - then the unemployment figures wouldn't be the worst we've seen in ten years.
Reuters) - The dollar rose on Friday, pushing the euro to a seven-week low, after fresh U.S. data supported the view the world's largest economy is improving enough to keep the Federal Reserve's stimulus-reducing measures on track.
U.S. industrial output rose at its fastest clip in 3-1/2 years in the fourth quarter, data showed Friday. Housing starts dropped 9.8 percent in December, the largest percentage decline since April, but housing starts were coming off a multi-year high in November.
The euro fell to a seven-week low of $1.3515 in the afternoon on the dollar's strong rally. It was last at $1.3530, down 0.7 percent.
The dollar index, a gauge of the dollar's value versus six major currencies, rose 0.4 percent to 81.232 .DXY. In afternoon trading, the yen was keeping pace with the dollar, as the greenback traded down 0.03 percent to 104.31 yen.
"Overall, the U.S. economy is making steady, if uneven, progress and that should keep intact expectations for sustained Fed tapering this year," said Joe Manimbo, senior market analyst at Western Union Business Solutions in Washington.

Regardless of the money they spent - Labor did keep the economy ticking over. Nope. The mining industry did. We didn't suffer the way so many other nations did, although in retrospect - Nor did other countries... it was not Global. maybe we should have and we wouldn't be hit with a double whammy now. All they did was increase debt.Puhlease leave Monk where he belongs... The excuse is government debt, a reality thanks to 6 years of Labor...Austerity measures are definitely on the agenda.

You can't blame Labor for that. I can, because they had 6 years to change the welfare system and tax benefits etc, etc, etc... Look at the uproar when Gillard introduced means testing and reduced the single parents pension for those who had children over eight. Labor were never generous with welfare.Caused by? Clue... not this government,Hockey is right though - our current welfare bill is unsustainable, especially as the economy is showing definite signs of weakness and unemployment is expected to rise due to huge layoffs. The previous Coalition government is also responsible for the huge increase in the DSP. Towards the end - every man and his dog was put on it. It made the unemployment figures look better for the Coalition. Actually mantra the change increased the most under labor didn't it. I'll tell you why I think it did. because people cannot live on newstart... they are below the poverty line and especially the long term unemployed are losing everything they ever made... it is a spiral into the gutter. So more people apply for it and more people get it... either through compassion or because their health actually has deteriorated.
It's been on the news recently. Really? Got a quote? Their trade figures have improved and manufacturing is finally taking off again. Yes it's a bit unsteady, but moving upwards. yes mantra it is not moving up on a trend it is in convulsions.really, yet from all reports it is still going up and down.. yet we're headed in the opposite direction. If our economy was in good shape - then the unemployment figures wouldn't be the worst we've seen in ten years. Oh dear oh dear.... the real figure are by far worse and have been for ages. Don't be so quick to swallow the propaganda you get fed. When was the last time we saw a real drop in unemployment?

I'm pretty sure that backs me up and I'm pretty sure I can also find figures to back me up even more... but you already did that.

Grey army and majority of Australians don't support 70 as the retirement age.
