The difference between Liberal and the left?LABOR in South Australia has come under fire for distributing "filthy and racist" campaign material in a must-win marginal seat in the final days of the state election campaign.
The campaign flyer targets Liberal candidate Carolyn Habib, who is half-Lebanese, with an attack advertisement emphasising her Arabic surname.
Amid a community outcry yesterday, Premier Jay Weatherill refused to apologise for the flyer, accusing people of "pretend offence".
The offending flyer uses Ms Habib's surname three times in capital letters, with the words "can you trust HABIB?" against a background described yesterday as from a Middle Eastern warzone.
The typeface used is the same as Labor's "You Won't Be Settled In Australia" asylum-seeker campaign controversially launched last year by the federal government.
Conservatives don't condone racism, unlike the filthy left who will attack anyone using all dirty filthy tactics, even if one of those tactics is pissing on the hat they hold their ideals in. Filthy fucking hypocrites.
Federal Attorney-General George Brandis said the campaign tactic had "no place in Australian politics".
He denied it was similar to the Liberal campaign tactic in the federal seat of Lindsay in 2007, in which party volunteers distributed pamphlets from a fake Islamic society endorsing Labor.
"When the Liberal Party found out about what was going on in the seat of Lindsay, it condemned it immediately," he said. "Mr Weatherill ... condoned it."
