Abbotts secret EightByFive election fund exposed.

A secret Liberal Party-related slush fund being investigated for corruption received $183,342 from Australian Water Holdings while Arthur Sinodinos was AWH’s chairman or deputy chairman.
AWH paid $183,342 to the Liberal Party-related slush fund known as EightByFive, operated by Tim Koelma, a staffer for former NSW state Energy Minister Chris Hartcher.
The payments by AWH were booked as public relations services from Mr Koelma.
The EightByFive payments were in addition to the $76,000 AWH donated directly to the NSW Liberal Party.
ICAC has heard that AWH disguised political donations as “administration costs” which it charged back to the state government’s Sydney Water.
EightbyFive was first reported to ICAC by Liberal Senator Bill Heffernan who said property developers were being told to contribute to EightbyFive in apparent breach of political disclosure laws.
The payments are the first clear link between the current ICAC inquiry, Operation Credo, into Australian Water Holdings, and the upcoming donations inquiry, Operation Spicer, which will focus on EightByFive.
Mr De Aboitiz took the dispute further, with the only independent director of the AWH board.
“For a start there was $20,000 owing to the Liberal Party. “
Other overdue accounts included EightByFive.
Senator Sinodinos did not respond to questions from the Financial Review on Thursday.
Former Prime Minister John Howard expressed support for Senator Sinodinos on Thursday .
