Seems PUP is dead and buried already. Apparently Clive spent a bundle on these elections, but it also seems the people have woken up to him and his farce of a party. Even ON lasted longer than PUP... RIP.

Pup Party was over before it began, lots of huffing and puffing but no show. When there's a vote on In Parliament Clive disappears. Pup Party was and is a failed bully boy attempt to Abbott.

Carl Judge quits: Palmer United party loses last state MP in Queensland

Clive Palmer will unveil the new Queensland leader of his party next week, after last remaining MP leaves to recontest seat as an independent

The Palmer United party has no representatives left in state parliament after its sole remaining MP, Carl Judge, announced on Wednesday night he was quitting the party.

The PUP’s outgoing state leader intends to stand as an independent at the next election.

Palmer says he will announce his party’s new state leader when he unveils candidates for the state election late next week.

While both men insist they have parted ways on good terms, Palmer took a veiled swipe at party deserters and said Judge had only been “standing in” as state leader.

“The party needs a real leader able to deliver real results for all Queenslanders,” Palmer said in a statement on Thursday.

Judge’s decision comes two months after his predecessor Dr Alex Douglas quit, alleging a party culture of “jobs for the boys” and a lack of democracy in preselecting candidates.

At the time Palmer said he had full faith that Judge would lead the PUP to the next state election.

Judge also said he had no plans to quit the party.

But after being preselected in attorney general Jarrod Bleijie’s Sunshine Coast seat of Kawana, Judge said he now wants to recontest his south Brisbane electorate of Yeerongpilly.

He denies having any problems with Palmer.

“I have a great deal of respect for Clive Palmer,” Judge said on Wednesday.

“I have a great deal of respect for what he’s trying to achieve in terms of improving democracy in Australia.

“My personal view is that it’s important for concentration on the federal level at this point in time. The Palmer United party plays an important role at a federal level.”

For such an unattractive man - he managed to get himself a very pretty wife. She might give the party a boost.

When Anna Palmer landed in Australia in 1993, 18 and a few weeks old, she had but one reason to be in the country: to marry the love of her life. Her parents were back in her native Bulgaria and in accordance with her visa she had to be married within six months.

There was no way her mother and father would make it for the wedding. Anna still wanted someone to walk her down the aisle and both she and her husband-to-be thought it would be nice if she could have “stand-in parents” for the day. A couple to sit at the bridal table and to, just in general, be around for Anna.

Enter Clive Palmer, a longtime associate of Anna’s fiance, Andrew Topalov. Palmer walked Anna down the aisle. And, 14 years later, he would marry her himself.

“It sounds terrible now, but it made sense,” Anna told the ABC’s Australian Story in a rare interview in 2012.

“His whole family was there, which was quite lovely. Basically Clive and his wife, Sue, were there. They were there as my mum and dad. They sat at the head table with us, so little Michael [Clive and Sue’s son] came. It was quite a serious, solemn event for us. Great responsibility I guess, because they filled in the shoes. He made a lovely speech, which he’s very capable of.”

The road to Anna’s and Clive’s marriage was not paved with scandal, despite the circumstances of their first meeting. It was tragedy that brought the two together. Clive lost Sue to cancer after 22 years of marriage in 2005, the year before Anna’s husband died from melanoma.

Today Anna is a constant at Clive’s side, a discreet presence on the sidelines of the Clive roadshow. Her name has been put in the spotlight as a potential Palmer United party candidate in the Queensland state election, in a Gold Coast seat. There are two other hats in the ring for the pre-selection of Gaven, though they remain anonymous, referred to only as “local residents” by PUP director Peter Burke.
