This is what I've been waiting for. Put the camera up Friday arvo and tetreived it Sunday arvo and got over 100 pics, almost all of pigs.

Another oops! .. I didn't check the calendar on trail cam before setting, and then copied the wrong dates into titles of pics.
They should begin with [Sat1stFeb14] as opposed to 1st of Jan.

Yogi how about some cooking recipes
and how to get the best crackly and taste.

I never liked Bernard King and have been anti-cooking show ever since.
I can't get TV reception without a satellite dish, so don't have to worry about who's iron chef's kitchen rules.

Cooking wild animals is best done in a big pot of water.
I stew because the feral pigs I catch are fit, so tough to eat.
For crackly crackling, put salt on it with reasonably high temp.

For crackly crackling, put salt on it with reasonably high temp.

I concur. Salt the fuck out of it and let it sit so the salt draws the moisture out of the fat, then high temps, even pulling the crackling off to continue cooking after the meat is ready.

Basically, deep fry that bitch in its own pork fat.

Phase 1: The challenge

Was in Brewarrina (NSW) in a pub seeing a made around 1982 and the guys at the bar said they were going pig catching tomorrow. I came down from Sydney for the week to see a mate working there.

I had hunted pigs and thought I knew something about this topic and the conversation when like this.

Me: "Pig catching, are you using guns?"
Cocky: "No"
Me: "Are you hunting with dogs and a knife?"
Cocky: "No"
Me: "Oh, are you using traps?"
Cocky: "No"
Me: "Well how the fuck are you going to catch these pigs?"
Cocky: "With our bare hands"
Me: "Bullshit"
Cocky: "Well city boy, come with us tomorrow and you will catch a wild bore bare handed"
Me: ....fuck...... pressure.... fuck.... "Ok I will"

6am next morning up and on the way to the property.

How did I catch a wild bore with my bare hands? Any takers?

A mate who stayed (rent free) at my place in 2012 for 10 months and I caught suckers bare handed.
Although we had just killed (shot) their mother.
My experience is that once very young suckers are separated from their mob, they don't know where to go.
My last dod, Rocket caught a week old sucker and by the time I got to them, he had let it go, and it just stood there shaking, like it was in shock, and didn't try to run away.
Another one he caught, he had on its back when I got there. I took it from him, and that sucker fought me all the way home (didn't have my duffle bag like I usually do).

As to how you caught pigs bare handed, my guess is you chased them into water (creek, river or dam) and hog tied them in the mud.

Hooray for the rain. Not just because it brings pigs, but because I get rain days off.
This work $#!+ (citrus) is getting in the way of my hunting time.
And that's probably how it's going to be for 8 months.

Just my luck. The pigs are on, I've got 3 boars out the back, including a 150-180 kg monster.
I've got myself a slick 60 lb Hoyt compound hunting bow, firing 31" carbon fibre arrows with really sharp Tusker broadhead hunting tips,
and I've got to go to phuking work .. grrrr

Nope.

The bastards had a great time with me.

We went out with 2 V-dubs cutdown that looked like the cars out of mad Max and a couple of motor bikes looking for pigs. It wads a very large property so the fences we few and far between. I was in one of the buggies. When we saw a herd of pigs we chased them and chased them and chased them. Eventually they were so shagged out they stopped. The biggest (a sow) was isolated and she stood her ground. One of the guys approached her waving a heshon (sp) bag to maintain her attention. I crept behind a tree near her and walked up to her and grabbed her back leg and just lifted. The pig was caught. He was completely exhausted, frothing at the mouth and could not struggle too much. man she was heavy. So they put me in the buggy holding her legs in a hoig tied position without rope. As she regained her strength it took all of mind to hold her in place. they laughed and laughed.

All in all, city boy did good. Made some good friends that day and learned a lot.

What they told me and clearly I had experienced was:
- A pig can trot all day.
- A pig can only sprint for a short time
- Run them down until exhausted
- Distract them
- picking it up by one hind leg works well because a pig is not flexible like a dag and cannot bend it's torso up or around to bite you.

I also learned

- Watch the real cockies... they know their shit and even though I came from country NSW I knew shit about the outback.
- I learned that living in a densely populated (relatively speaking) irrigated farm area did not mean I can ever claim to be from outback Australia or that I come from the bush.
- that wild pigs have fucking LICE. Big mothers. monster crabs. And that they really don't want to crawl up my arse like they said when I was cover in the buggers. Also the sound a real belly laugher from those watching me jump around and run to the shower after being told don't let them get through your underwear.
- also city boys are fair game.
- I had balls and took on the challenge.
- I love the bush.... for a holiday ......................

Well done SN. I suspect the sow was out of puff though.
Actually it's quite normal for sows to fight first, to let the suckers get away.
Boars typically run, and will run through a mob to put dogs onto the suckers.

Chasing pigs with vehicles wouldn't work in my area, because you'd either hit a tree, boulder, log, or go over a cliff/steep hill.
