I have never been skiing but several "famous" people have ended their lives this way. I had to look up pist-off or whatever the term is. Means cross country skiing. Rocks, tree stumps and all ...

Apparently he was doing about 60 miles/hr when he fell. That is fast on skis.

He knows he alive when on the edge.

The only celeb I recall dying on the slopes was Sonny Bono. Then the tree jokes come out.

Appears the initial rumours were wrong.

Michael Schumacher suffered life-threatening head injuries because of "extreme bad luck" and not because of recklessness, and had been helping a friend who had fallen shortly before his own catastrophic accident, an aide has claimed.

The Formula 1 legend was not going particularly fast but hit a concealed rock with his skis, which catapulted him into the air before he landed head-first on another rock, according to his spokeswoman.

Schumacher is showing signs of improvement following a second operation on his brain, doctors said, as it emerged he hit his head so hard that his ski helmet “broke in two”.

Yeah, Sonny Bono. There was also a Kennedy who died in a ski accident in the 90's (that family dies every way imaginable).
