But in order to do that you have to make your manufactured goods competitive with imported goods in your own markets as well as imported or natively produced goods in your export markets. The problem for Australia is that your dollar is valued so highly compaired to your competitors AND your customers. While this means your exported raw materials will generate a large income it also has the effect of driving up the production costs of your manufactured goods making you less competitive against goods produced elsewhere.
Add to that some rather idiotic economic policy from your government (lower import taffifs from mid-high 50%s down to low 20s-mid Teen percentages was basically what slit Holden's throat), and what you get is a case of the Dutch Disease that could be a case study out of an Econ 100 course on how not to run a resource rich economy.

I thought that was all about low trade barriers because we are the US' poodle when it comes to this stuff. We don't have the balls to have any trade protection policies for fear of repercussions from you guys.

I don't see why we'd bother with trade sanctions against you considering what we put up with in the way of native industry protects from much more important trade partners like Japan. Don't blame us for your poor economic policy descions, you guts did this yourselves.

You would only have to say we were no-compliant with the many agreements with have with the US and we would buckle. You it is our fault but we see the US as the big brother that saved us in WWII when the POMs let go of the region to defend the homeland so we still suck up to you for protection.
That is our fault. If we were more like NZ and had some balls things maybe different. It is our fault.
How we undo this poodle like relationship is a real issue that no-one in Australian politics will address. Hell they probably fear disappearing off the planet.... fear is what keeps us compliant.

When Holden sells a Holden for cost price to keep an Australian worker employed then there may be a case for subsidy.
When Holden dealerships sell cars for cost price to keep an Australian worker employed there may be a case for subsidy.
Moving Americans back to their own country makes room for more Australians.
Without US corporate backing Holden would have gone out of business long ago, you idiot. So yeah, more room for unemployed Australians would be a lot more accurate of a statement, Skippy.
Seriously, go look up an economics concept called the "Paradox of Plenty" to see why Holden is so blindingly uncompetitive. You poor bastards have the Dutch Disease bad.
You don't know much about Australia at all do you.
HMBB was bought by GM because it was a good deal not because they needed financial rescuing.

Is that before or after you people and your government keeps lowering import tariffs to the point they made Holden hugely uncompetitive even with the backing of on of the largest corporations on the planet that was in turn backed by the US Government? Do you really want me to list off all the things your government has done to make it so your native industry cannot compete worth a fuck in your own markets, never mind overseas markets? Do you even know what the Paradox of Plenty is or how it explains why your country has so much mineral wealth, yet so little in the way of exports that aren't non-renewable natural resources?
Do you have any opinions at all that are even remotely informed, Rorsch?
If you weren't such a know nothing fkwit, I might have time for you.
Unfortunately....
Gee free trade agreements are US government policy.... gee does that involve lowering tariffs?
BTW I know what our
governments have done wrong unlike yourself I'm up to speed with my country thank... moron.

Again, why would we? We face much harsher tariffs in markets much more important than yours and we've done no such thing. Even better, thanks to your economic bungling, General Motors, one of our corporations lost enough money they had to close fucking Holden because you guys made it impossible for Holden to remain competitive in its home market.
That is our fault. If we were more like NZ and had some balls things maybe different. It is our fault.
Stop blaming us for your fuck ups. As evidenced by Holden closing it was obviously not in our best interests for you to lower your fucking import tariffs. Seriously, which part of this is so difficult for you to grasp?

Well, for a start you as a people could take responsibility for your own actions instead of constantly blaming the US for every goddamn thing that goes wrong for you.

Then name the trade agreement the US has with that requires you to drop your tariffs for everyone. That would be a reversal of over sixty fucking years worth of US economic policy.
BTW I know what our governments have done wrong unlike yourself I'm up to speed with my country thank... moron.
Yet you have no goddamn idea of economics of the history of US/Australia economic policy.
Like I asked before, do you have any opinions that are even remotely informed or are you always full of shit?
