Reagan, Thatcher and other notable 80s conservatives were entirely wrong about Mandela.

No they weren't.... any why bother to single out Conservatives... they exist on the Left of politics too you know.

He was a communist and a terrorist, he did advocate violence. Care to prove these are not facts.

Apparently, the USA had Mandela listed as a TERRORIST up until 2008.

Anyway, he is dead now. RIP Nelson. :rose

It all turned out pretty well for Mandela, South Africa and the world in spite of how Mandela was tarred by the right ... the dire predictions by the right never came to pass.

The Right? You mean The Republicans don't you. I never heard of anything much about Mandela... as Australians, we were at the forefront of sanctions against SA and breaking down Apartheid. In fact it was bipartisan in Australia and one PM... a RW PM using your terminology, actually visited Mandela in prison.

Do you read anything?   :du
But I'll have you know that when the ANC had eschewed violence, Mandela refused to do the same.
Mandela has had no influence on my life.
Mandela is not the messiah. (Black or otherwise).
The recent "canonising" of Mandela by many in the global media and in politics is IMO a great over-reaction. But then we saw similar stupidity with Princess Diana didn't we.
I've would never do what you suggested I would.
As for people caring.... that doesn't even come into it...

What I have said was; "He was a communist and a radical... and an advocate for human rights. Sometimes life throws us "opportunities" that lead down paths we wouldn't normally tread." I'm also sure he would agree with me.

And that is what got him noticed and made him the champion for peace at the time.

The butterfly effect and the fact you have spent time thinking about him and even posting here makes that technically not true.

True but he was a naughty boy for a while and then made good.

Mandela deserves some recognition because he had a cause, a noble one. Racist institutionalised oppression is just not acceptable in the modern world. He fought, did time, had many reasons to have ingrained hatred, over come this and took a surprising approach to reconciliation that showed what a man of stature he was. He made a difference. One man. he deserve some recognition.

And he took it.

True but he was a naughty boy for a while and then made good. Really? gee do you think perhaps I've already mentioned that?

He fought, did time, had many reasons to have ingrained hatred, over come this and took a surprising approach to reconciliation that showed what a man of stature he was. He made a difference. One man. he deserve some recognition. Never said he didn't.

Fuuuunnnnnneeee

What a laugh.

Nelson Mandela memorial interpreter 'was a fake'

Man who provided sign language interpretation on stage for Nelson Mandela's memorial service, attended by scores of heads of state, was simply "making childish hand gestures" for hours.
