Ok, coming to the thread a little late, but maybe someone could answer this for me...

Why in the hell would an Australian PM give a shit about if his actions in Australia would be considered illegal in ANOTHER FUCKING COUNTRY ENTIRELY? Do Indonesian courts have jurisdiction in Australia? Are your laws beholden to the whims of the Indonesian Justice System? Who gives a fuck what some kangaroo court loving developing-world shithead in Indonesia says?

You guys want to be a world power and all, guess what? Stuff like this is part and parcel of the deal. Do what we do and ignore it.

Breaking one of Indonesia's minor laws is trivial, but it was an indication of how our new PM was going to proceed generally with foreign relations.

As he wants their co-operation on many issues - starting off by snubbing their journalists was a bad move. Being courteous to another nation, whether it's a developing country or not, should be the protocol expected from any nation's leader. We are a little country and foreign relations are important, even if it is only paying lip service to minor matters.

Now - there is full blown hatred for us. Of course America would come to our aid if necessary, but do we want it to come to this?

Then Abbott refused to respond to the allegations of spying - again a small matter which has been allowed to blow up. A little diplomacy might have helped avoid the ensuing hostility. We have a $14 billion export trade to Indonesia which is possibly going to cease. There are calls for a boycott. Abbott was also relying on their co-operation to stop their people smugglers. This was his election promise - to stop the boats. Abbott's lack of diplomacy will have a negative affect on us in many ways.
The Indonesian national police and immigration departments are readying themselves to stop all co-operation with Australia as soon as an order comes from President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

Indonesia’s police chief, General Sutarman, said he was preparing to halt all joint programs including those addressing trans-national crime, people smuggling, trafficking in persons and terrorism if the president made the order in response to phone-tapping revelations. And the Law and Human Rights ministry, which oversees Indonesia’s immigration department is also preparing to withdraw its support for people-smuggling programs.

He doesn't and hasn't apologised for what every other country does. The only ones here wailing, as you can see are the lefty hand wringers and bedwetters, trying to use it as a political point soaring argument when even they know it was the last lefty hand wringing bedwetting govt it occurred under.

The lefty hand wringers think conservatives should say "sorry" for everything the lefty hand wringers fucked up....but you would expect nothing less from a bunch of cowering idiots who thought giving away Australian immigration franchises to people smugglers was the "right thing to do"

Even then, why does he give a shit. He's protected by international treaty against prosecution, so Indonesia can go choke on a bowlful of dicks.

Tony Abbott is being diplomatic. He could have said "It isn't my fault, the spying went on under the former Labor Government", but he didn't. It is pissing the leftards off. Even Gillard has come out and said a few words and it was Rudd who approved the spying in 2009 anyway. NOBODY CARES. Indonesia is about to have an Election and their pollies are using everything they can get .........

In my opinion, Tony Abbott hasn't put a foot wrong ... Rudd (and Gillard) was on every night on TV News. Waffle, waffle waffle. NOBODY CARES. Abbott makes an announcement when he actually has something important to say. Breath of fresh air but the Leftards can't grasp it, so they are telling monster porkies and making up stuff to denigrate Abbott. He, being the person he is, is ignoring all the crap. Australia is running smoothly. Indonesia is in political campaign mode. The Indonesian public care less about Australia.

IQ's, Nef and Chard have said all that needs to be said re- this rather pointless and contrived statement re- our PM being stupidly accused of breaking the law.

That is your opinion, but it's not the opinion of everyone. You can wear blinkers - but plenty of people choose not to. Do you think any criticism of Abbott's leadership should be silenced? This government is going to be far worse than Labor. Abbott's not being a statesman by not saying anything - he's an introvert and that's why he's mute.

So are you requesting that the thread is terminated Mel?

Abbott will be subject to speculation and/or criticism on every move he and his cabinet make as long as they are in power. Get used to it.

 oh please

How about you try and make a valid criticism one day instead of your whiny bitching about trying to blame Abbott for shit that went down under the ALP...it will require some though on your behalf so don't strain yourself. It's not something you'll be used to doing.

It's almost as pathetic as when you tried to explain away every fuckup under the last govt which was an every day occurrence. I think we conservatives are just asking you not to be so pathetic...to save yourself from embarrassing yourself.
