I believe that. There go our relaxed, cheap holidays in Bali. Maybe Abbott needs to say something on behalf of all Australians to ease the tension?
This standoff will be to our detriment. Sometimes diplomacy is needed in tense situations. Pity the Coalition is bereft of diplomats.
Oh FFS mantra are you living under a rock... they haven't stopped talking behind the scenes.

Going back to the first post as the following caught my eye...
Rorschach wrote:14/ All countries have a policy of silence, neither confirm nor deny policy re intelligence gathering.
15/ China, Indonesia and the US have all been caught spying on us in recent times and we have not made a big song and dance about it like these drips.
Don't forget that while all that is going on ASIS (Australian Secret Intelligent Service) is spying on us, the Chinese, and the Indonesians (and probably anyone else they've got the budget and assets to spy on). Like yeah said with Point 14, everyone tends to turn a blind eye towards it because everyone is guilty of doing it themselves. Funny bit is with the except of our collective efforts (By "our" I mean SEATO/NATO) against the PRC and USSR during the Cold War, we actually spy on our allies more than our nominal enemies.
16/ Maybe they are more sensitive about it because the elections are coming up.
You nailed it on the head, Rorsch. What makes it easy to sell it to the public is the recent shenanigans with the NSA nosing about in everyone's laundry in a manner that isn't plausibly deniable (Seriously, who thought it was a good idea to tap Angela fucking Merkel's personal cell phone?). Usually this stuff happens all nice and quiet, lots of backroom wheeling and dealing with little or no public knowledge.
Then Snowden had to fuck it up for everyone...

So how is this Indonesian spy crap and Abbott's tough stance on the Indonesians working for us?
1. The Indonesians intend to boycott our live export market. That's fine as far as I'm concerned, but the farmers won't be happy.
2. The Indonesians will cease any co-operation in regard to stopping the people smugglers. These criminals will have open slather now and no doubt drownings will increase. How is Abbott going to stop the boats now?
3. Indonesia has recalled their Australian ambassador.
4. The Australian Embassy in Indonesia is surrounded by protestors demanding Australian goods be boycotted.
All Abbott had to do was pick up the phone and be a diplomat.

It just gets worse by the day. We'd be crazy to give them this aircraft under any conditions. They'll probably be used to attack us.
AUSTRALIA'S $30 million gift of four military aircraft to Indonesia is in jeopardy as anger over the spy scandal boiled over yesterday, with protesters burning photos of Prime Minister Tony Abbott and hurling eggs at the Australian embassy in Jakarta.
Officials from both countries were due to gather at the RAAF base at Richmond on Tuesday to hand over of four Hercules C-130H.
"Our nation has been insulted by Australia. Let's attack them,'' shouted one of the protesters from the militant Kommando Perjuan Merah Putih (Red and White Fighter Commandos).
While throwing eggs and burning images of Mr Abbott and an Australian flag, the protesters called for war with Australia and demanded the Australian ambassador, Greg Moriarty, be expelled.

It's like taking pictures outside Melbourne university and claiming the whole of Australia is like this.
Even most Indonesian recognise that the protestors are of the same ratbag bunch as our own ratbag leftist universities except that they are rabid right wing Islamists - which has lead to a predictable response from our own whinging leftwing protest groups "We should listen to radical Islamist rightwing groups and roll over like a scared puppy dog for something Kevin Rudd and Julia were responsible for"

Do any of us really give a fuck what a nation of Aussie hating political oppotunissts think of us anyway? Indonesian government officials are no strangers to international spying games, its just it suited them more when Labor. were overseeing the spying in exchange.
For our turning a blind eye to their (Indonesia's) corrupt government officials involved in smuggling rackets. But now the rules of play have changed with our new government unwilling to negotiate with corrupt Indonesian officials the grapes have soured. Indonesia were ok with a Labor controlled ASIO "listening " on for quality control measures when there was a lucrative advantage t,o permit it but now Abbotts stopping the boats things have changed and were always going to.

We and our allies can manage the threat of a rubber dingi filled with pissed of gready people smuggling Indonesian officials. Just a travel warning alone to all Australians and her allies would be enough to cripple their tourism industry. They should be focusing on promoting their holiday packages,, this opposed to their corrupt gov officials people smuggling packages which is crippling their legitimate existing industry..Indonesia need a change in government if their long term prosperity is to extend beyond that of their corrupt government officials who strike deals with shonky western goverments to at the detriment of their nations law abiding people.
