Of course we do. Not posting tonight, as I'm not feeling that great today.

Sorry that you aren't feeling well, Hebe, relax you've had a major operation so it will take time before you are feeling a lot better. Take care!

Anyway, to keep the arguments flowing, here's an opinion piece on how the Abbott government is doing on the international, especially Asian, stage:

I'm starting to wonder if Abbott suffers from the micromanaging disease that Rudd had. It's looking as though he doesn't trust his ministers to do their jobs. And although I don't like most of the LNP, or their policies, I'd like to see them given a chance. And a voice."The making of effective foreign policy always looks easier than it is. As a result, new governments tend to underestimate the task. The Howard and Rudd/Gillard governments each made tentative starts on the international stage. The current government's diplomatic initiation has been worse. Even allowing for inexperience, the Abbott government appears to be setting a new standard for diplomatic ineptitude. The Prime Minister in particular has lurched from one mistake to another, with each episode more ham-fisted than the last."

And more comment on the "quiet" bit:
So what do you think? Is there anything to be gained by this continued silence? Or does it demonstrate contempt for voters? Or, are they hiding things? I certainly tend to think information about asylum seekers is being suppressed.
Bring on Parliament, where we can actually hear what they have to say. I might even watch Question Time for the first time in my life.
http://www.theage.com.au/federal-politi ... 2x0p8.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Canberra press gallery veteran Laurie Oakes says the Abbott government is "thumbing its nose at voters" through a lack of transparency and communication.
You can’t thumb your nose at the voters’ right to know and you can’t arrogantly say ‘we’ll let the voters be misinformed and we won’t help journalists get it right'. That’s just a disgusting attitude.
The respected Channel Nine reporter and political commentator told Fairfax Media that Prime Minister Tony Abbott and senior ministers were breaking their election promise of greater accountability for voters.

Its a beat-up.
Oakes has a vested interest in creating "news". plus his ALP source Rudd has nothing to say. I prefer a government that gets on with it instead of camera hogs and egotists.
Parliament hasn't started yet, when it does it'll be on TV every sitting day and political news will start to flow.
As for asylum sneakers... there is a report every week.

Enough said!Raoul Heinrichs is a scholar, editor of the Lowy Institute’s Strategic Snapshots and former foreign and security adviser to Kevin Rudd while in opposition.
Raoul is a Sir Arthur Tange doctoral scholar at the Australian National University’s Strategic and Defence Studies Centre. Raoul edits the Lowy Institute’s ‘Strategic Snapshots’ series and is a former Lowy Institute research associate. He is the founding coordinator of the Institute’s MacArthur Asia Security Project and, before that, the Institute’s inaugural Michael and Deborah Thawley scholar in international security, with a research placement at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, DC. In 2007, Raoul worked on foreign and security policy in the office of then Opposition Leader, Kevin Rudd.

Yeah, must be awful hanging around Parliament House (is Abbott still bunking down at the AFP joint in Barton) first thing on a Canberra morning where we are still getting down to about 1C at 6 am. It (eventually) got to 26C today.IQS.RLOW wrote:Fairfax journos crying because they arent being spoon fed anymore and have forgotten how to be real actual journalists, so they write opinion pieces about how they aren't being spoon fed
I think the so-called Canberra journos (like Oakes) are pissed off that Tony Abbott isn't giving a daily Press Conference. They now have to actually do their JOB and RESEARCH ... or write rubbish as some people have already posted links to on this very Forum.
New Government, new rules. Some people never adjust!

Remind me again why this thread is about the quiet achiever? How do you know he's achieving anything? Where do you get your information from?

Re: Abbott the quiet achiever...
Sorry to butt in, Hebe but I have lived in Canberra for a long time and, really, nobody here cares about politics. I didn't care much about politics when I lived in Melbourne or Sydney either. I have no idea why I continue to post on this site ...Hebe wrote:Rorschach wrote:Its a beat-up.

Abbott is a DOER, not a man who needs to be in the limelight, constantly. His wife and daughters would keep him down to earth. However, I very much doubt that Tony Abbott thinks of himself as somebody who can change The World. I think he is far more down to earth than that.
He will be a Great Prime Minister .... believe me.
