On the resignation of the NBN Co board and likely appoint of Zwitkowski as CEO. Ziggy royally fucked Telstra, halving the share price! Good news for the NBN, NOT!

Also—the FTTN in the UK not going well, so now being changed to shorten the length of copper left with an ultimate aim—convert to FTTH. Why not do FTTH straight away? BT do own the copper, maybe it made sense to get a bit more money out of it. Doubt it—they would make MUCH more ARPU out of FTTH. 1080p video just mandates fibre anyway.

NBN Co admits to lies and fabrications about the project... oh dear... really?

Now Turnbull and the government will find out exactly what's been going on.

Oh dear :bgrin oh deary deary dear :rofl

Malcolm Turncoat ALREADY being leaked against—latest corporate plan of NBN Co leaked. Things not too bad—contingency fund not touched, rollout just 3 months behind and ramping up.

But where it gets REALLY interesting—as the rollout ramps up the costs go down and it is cheaper to roll out FTTH than FTTN! :oops

The trademark Turncoat arrogance was on full display at yesterdays presser but to no avail—he is the Minister, the buck stops with him!
This leaves Turnbull in a difficult position, he must either denounce the corporate plan & claim it’s full of fraudulent data, or admit his plan is the worst way to get to FTTP as an end-game. Don’t forget, Turnbull admits that FTTP is the end-game as often as he claims the NBN has huge cost blowouts & massive delays.

While I understand there’s little to be done to convince Turnbull to err on the side of FTTP, it’s becoming increasingly apparent he’s having difficulty maintaining composure in the face of probing questions from journalists. There’s nowhere for Turnbull to hide these days, the buck stops with him, all the obfuscation in the world won’t stop people leaking documents such as the current corporate plan.

You know you’re doing it wrong when you’ve been sworn in to government for less than a week & there’s already damaging leaks.

Sortius comments on the just–released ABS report on internet usage—fairly big extract:
ABS has released their six-monthly report into Australia’s Internet: Internet Activity, Australia, June 2013.

Some interesting data to take away from the report:

Total wireless subscriptions (cellular wireless & satellite excluding handset data) rose marginally, while wireless data use decreased by almost 1 petabyte

Over 2 million more mobile handsets are in the wild, yet the data use per user has decreased by about 200MB per user

Fibre subscriptions are up by 24 000, DSL up by 60 000, Cable (HFC) up by 16 000, Dial-up (still way too high) is down by 55 000

Data use by fixed lines has increased by over 100 petabytes, or 20%.

The connection breakdown is: 51% mobile/fixed wireless, 49% fixed line

Usage breakdown: 4% wireless (down 1%), 96% fixed line (up 1%)
Advertised speeds: 2% on <256Kbps (down 6%), 3% on 256Kbps to 1.5Mbps (down 18%), 32% on 1.5Mbps to 8Mbps (down 5%), 48% on 8Mbps to 24Mbps (up 21%), & 14% on 24Mbps or greater (up 7%)*

Total Internet subscriber base: 12 358 000, up almost 200 000 in 6 months

ISPs offering home phone services shrunk, while those offering mobile handsets increased

Content/Email filtering is dropping off, no doubt due to the increase in ISPs

ISPs offering IPTV has stagnated at 10%

Naked DSL services are on the rise, with a 3% increase to 44% of ISPs

The number of ISPs increased by 47, it’s mostly the “very small ISP” market with over 100 new ISPs int he last 6 months
Victoria, New South Wales, & Queensland are leading the pack in terms of subscriber numbers, no surprise.

Interesting data, as this puts to rest Turnbull’s claims of a data plateau. With the 20% increase in data use it seems there’s no end in sight for our desire for data. Nothing exemplifies this more than the shift from lower speed services (up to 8Mbps) to higher speed services (over 8Mbps).

It’s good to see a strengthening ISP sector, especially in the “very small ISP” market. Many of these ISPs are designed for local users with the right services for the communities they service. It is disheartening to see a drop in the largest of ISPs, so much for competition at the highest levels.

It’s looking more like people are opting for higher & higher speed connections. If they are moving toward 25Mbps services already, does that not mean Turnbull’s network will be out of date by the time it comes in? If the data use increase rate continues through to the end of 2016, & doesn’t increase as it has in the past, there will have been a 416% increase in data use (around 3.25 Exabytes of data).

If people are scrambling for higher speed services now (a 28% swing to 8Mbps or above services), what are they going to do in 3 years time when they can’t get much faster guaranteed speeds.
http://www.sortius-is-a-geek.com/happy- ... -data-day/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

People want data—fibre gives the mostest data. Stop being a shill for Murdoch, Turncoat and give the country what it wants and needs!

Notice that wireless data is dropping? No surprise to me—mobile users have migrated to 4G where data is bloody pricy! So much for this lib fanboi whine about wireless making the NBN a white elephant.

No no no RS.

An anonymous blogger who is a low level shitkicker in IT and doesn't understand time stamps knows far more than the CEO who ran Alcatel and the NBN...
