Should Rudd grow a pair and introduce a real ETS?

Post by Jovial Monk » Sat May 23, 2009 12:06 pm

It is after all "the biggest moral" problem of our age.

Fuckwits denying global warming--Hi Sheepy--are just that, fuckwits and retards.

So the world needs to act and act now.

Kevin could introduce an ETS with a 40% reduction target and high mandatory renewable energy target and no fucking free permits and no fucking susbsidies--polluters have had DECADES to mend their polluting ways. The mewing by rentseekers wanting more subsidy and more free permits frankly just makes me SICK!

A Emissions Tariff should be put on stuff that is made by polluting countries. Within a decade tho the problem will be undeniable even by the likes of Andrew Dolt, and it could well be too late to reduce emissions.

Related, the MD is drying out. Pipe water from the Burdekin and other Qld/NT rivers to the MD, much cheaper than moving SE Aust to the north.

Lets ACT!

More people are growing their own veges, part GFC, part GW motivated I should think.

All that compost, composted manure and mulch I have put on my garden must have locked up some carbon in the soil, as have my fast-growing fruit trees.

Alas for Adelaide's ground water, hahahahahah

No the real reason why people are growing their own vegies is because they have had enough of the shitty inferior quality expensive shit shit from Moles and Foolworths and stupid green grocers who sell stuff that's been stored frozen since Kevin Foley was a screaming fluffy bunny of a kid! We want our cooking to taste the same way mamma's and nonna's was (during a time when shops and farmers prided themselves on quality food), and we can only achieve that through growing it ourselves. The herbs I grow - 100x better than the store bought crap.

Yeah that too I suppose. 'New' yellow-fleshed potatoes that are so new the skin disappears on cooking.

I bought french sorrel a couple times, couldn't find the promised lemony taste, saw a seedling at some market (Farmers Markets another growing trend) planted it, harvested. . .ahhh, there is that lemony taste! Great over baked 'Atlantic' salmon.

We owe the Slow Food Movement a lot.

I am already horrified by our recent energy bills. I don't think we could afford any higher rates than we pay now. We have just paid over 1200 dollars for our quarterly gas electricity and water and it isn't even winter proper yet. We have turned off the ducted gas, hoping to reduce the bills.

That is an incredible amount to pay each quarter Rainbow - although I know you have a big family. There are usually 2-3 people in my household and my quarterly bill for electricity (no gas) averages $180.00 (I don't have off peak) and water doesn't exceed $100 per annum. We are careful - well I am, and it has taken some nagging to get others to follow my lead. We don't have airconditioning or heaters - but I grew up without them, so did my children and they aren't missed.

It annoys me too that electricity is going up 20% and that we are now paying an extra 12% on our water bill (state gov. ETS). If everyone was careful - this increase would not be necessary. People who run their airconditioners, fans and heaters constantly are the ones causing the overload and collapse on our ageing generators. We are in the middle of a recession and we should all be tightening our belts to minimise our costs and not being as extravagant as many became under the Howard government.

ETS or no ETS scheme - our cost of living will increase dramatically in the future. Howard didn't invest in infrastructure, we have hopeless state governments, especially in NSW and Rudd is not making the hard decisions he should be. Instead of forking out billions to every man and his dog, the Federal & State Governments should have invested this cash in more renewables as back up for our energy needs as promised to the Greens.

I agree.

At the shop I pay $400/qtr on electricity--11 fluoros, 3 fridges/freezers, computers, scales & heat sealers plus radio etc.

I pay $160/qtr on water & sewerage and that so fucking sucks! There is no shower here, no fucking garden and I don't even DRINK the foul Adelaide tap water!

That's a lot Monk. Is Adelaide's electricity privatised?

As far as water and sewerage goes - the rates in my area are exorbitant - $1300 a year and we pay for water on top of that. Today on the news - NSW Local councils are now requesting a 300% increase on rates, which will ensure many of us lose our homes.

The councils justify this by saying the state governments are foisting more of their responsibilities onto them, but in reality - it is because many of them gambled extra cash saved for infrastructure projects in dodgy investments during the boom and lost hundreds of millions. We have to make up for their shortfall.

Electricity is hellishly expensive in SA..I pay about $400+. per quarter as well and I only run a small home and have only the usual household appliances/whitegoods.

Its essential to be energy conscious..and funny enough I dont really see this reflected in my bill either.

God!, I'm glad I live on solar, looks like New South Welshmen dont know how good they've got it.

Monk, fridges use lots of power, anything that heats up or cools down uses lots of power, have you got air conditioning as well?
