My mother manages a community care organisation and sees this all the time.

These greedy relatives claim carers payment for "mum or dad" yet never go near them, leaving it up to the care-workers and often compassionate neighbours to help.

I know this. I did a year's stint of home care many years ago and thought it was a bit of a rort, but that was only my opinion. Still it must be cheaper for the government to have "carers" than put these people into nursing homes. Howard was the one who gave carers a couple of bonuses each year for their commitment.

Furthermore, the "carer" blow-out is going to worsen with Labors idiotic Patient Directed Care packages....whereby bludging relatives will be able to receive funding for the care of their relatives, housework and transport also for doing absolutely nothing because vulnerable people often don’t like to complain about their family members neglecting them or letting them down.

.... These Patient directed Care packages are going to result in abuse and neglect, not to mention financial exploitation of our nations most vulnerable.


Patient/Client directed Care failed in the UK and Europe for this reason...and it's sure to fail here in Australia for the same reasons.

Mantra, there are care services out there, and unlike some of these bludging relatives they actually turn up when they are supposed to OR ELSE!

Another example of elderly abuse....

A client was 'allegedly' being assisted with showers and receiving her medication 3 times a day by her 'trusted' carer and granddaughter, who lived just around the corner from her grandmothers home. Within walking distance I believe.

One morning, a careworker from the service my mother manages found her client had collapsed, though was still conscious (albeit dehydrated) on the bathroom floor, she'd been bleeding due to an injury on her head and had her care-call alarm tightly tangled around her neck down her back where she couldn’t reach it.
Tried to unclothe herself with it still attached i'd say.

While the careworker waited with her client for the ambulance, she asked when her granddaughter was coming, given the careworker knew her granddaughter was supposed to be there 3 times a day, 7 days a week.
The response came as, "She's having a hard time with one of her boys, so I told her not to worry about coming."

Turns out this client had been on the bathroom floor for well over 24 hours...she had tried to take a shower by herself the morning before they found her, but you know what saved her life in an ironic twist of fate Mantra?

The fact that her fat lazy grandaughter had forgotten to given her grandmother her medication for well over a week, because if she had taken her blood thinning medication the blow to her head would have bled out and they would have found her dead on the bathroom floor.

You need to understand that when legislation and policy is implemented and already being rolled out it isn’t as simple as waving a magic wand and repealing it.

Take the carbon tax for instance, Abbott needs to wait until the Greens are fumigated from the senate before he can work his magic.

And I think you will find the same applies to much of what Labor intentionally rolled out in haste in a deliberate attempt to make the most of irresponsible policy knowing full well it would be difficult if not impossible to repeal until next July.



Sorry, but a number of vulnerable people will have to die before Client Directed Care is binned, like they did in the UK and all over Europe before they binned theirs also.

And you have Labor to thank for this.

Hard to believe you actually believe what you been posting here... it aint reality.
So much so a sane person can't debate you on it... gotta be some facts b4 one can debate reality.

I'm just responding to a post. I didn't know Abbott had planned on having those on disability scrutinised - then those rejected sent to faraway places - not that I care one way or the other, but I'm curious as to how many people it will affect.

As far as the ETS goes - has Abbott said we will get out of the agreement we've signed up to?

Well that's my point mantra both those points are wrong.

Abbott made it quite clear that he planned to cramp down on welfare cheats and dole bludgers before he headed to the polls.



And this includes people claiming benefits for either themselves or on behalf of other people they claim they're caring for.


Has to be done!

Needs to be fare for those who genuinely require government assistance and who are doing the right thing by those they claim benefits for.
