This is why Monks pissed.

All those on disability payment will be reassessed by government appointed physicians, this and be forced back into the workforce where there’s plentiful unskilled work opportunities.

I think singles over the age of 18 should be forced to relocate to areas of high unskilled employment also for a period...but that’s just my view.

Mel - Abbott ran his campaign on getting rid of the carbon tax - not scrutinising the disabled. How is he going to get out of the ETS we've signed up to without it costing us dearly?

We never had a carbon tax, we had a Carbon Price. Monkeyman will let that move to an ETS and leave it at that—my prediction #1. I predict that because business wants the certainty of a carbon price mechanism and removing it will eventually see Australian exports get hit with Green Tariffs—a removal will see, for example, Qantas get hit with a levy on every one of its planes that lands in the UK. Also—the present Senate will block that until the new one takes over 1 Jul 2014 by which time recession will be stalking the land and Abbott will take the easy way out.

If Abbott moves the carbon "price" to an ETS, which is what Rudd had planned for next year - then he is grossly deceiving his supporters. Carbon credit trading in 3 or 4 years will cost us dearly especially if we haven't got a fixed price here. It doesn't matter if it's higher now - it's stable. If the tax goes - then we are going to be subject and victim to world energy prices without any credits to compensate us for it.

I am totally against an ETS and Abbott needs to address his true intentions.

How is he going to extricate us from a legally binding international ETS agreement? This will come back to bite him and he will look like a bigger liar than Gillard.

Given the Green wreckers are still in the senate, we have to wait until then unfortunately.

There are too many people sapping the system Mantra, which is why we need to clamp down on it.


Those who genuinely need to be on disability benefits and or who genuinely cant get paid employment will be ok, however those milking the system will be expected to get off their lazy asses.

For example - what if a member of your family was currently classified disabled - but then Abbott's disciplinary medical crew determined this was not the case and they were capable of "working", transferred to "unemployment" and then sent to say Darwin, Alice Springs or even Port Hedland where jobs were plentiful. Would you think this was a good idea?

I'm just responding to a post. I didn't know Abbott had planned on having those on disability scrutinised - then those rejected sent to faraway places - not that I care one way or the other, but I'm curious as to how many people it will affect.

As far as the ETS goes - has Abbott said we will get out of the agreement we've signed up to?

I am not on a disability pension Monk...and given my youngest child is just 10 months old, I wont be returning to the workforce until the new year, and then, only part-time/casual at this stage.

Mantra, I am not saying we should poke people out of wheelchairs and into the workforce and or relocate those 'incapable' to areas where there’s unskilled work opportunities.

What I am saying is that there needs to be an overhaul of the welfare system, as too many people are claiming benefits they really shouldn’t be getting.

One example of this is how 'said' carers are claiming carers benefits for elderly or disabled persons they claim to be caring for, when in many instances, these 'said' carers sit back and claim benefits and do nothing in the way of caring for those they receive benefits for.

My mother manages a community care organisation and sees this all the time.

These greedy relatives claim carers payment for "mum or dad" yet never go near them, leaving it up to the care-workers and often compassionate neighbours to help.

My mother had one client who's neighbour was going in to assist with showering, dressing and transport despite the clients daughter (who was a no-hoper and drug addict) receiving a carers payment for her elderly mother.

Despite her now having a service, would you believe that her daughter still receives a carers payment for doing absolutely nothing?

She hasn’t been near her mother in months, but because the elderly client worries that her daughter will steal or bludge on her she signed the Centrelink forms to say her daughter is her carer.

It has to stop.

Another client had gone into full-time care, had been in a nursing home for over a year though their son was still claiming a carers payment for her care...he lied and said she was in respite.

Another client of hers niece is still receiving a carers payment for popping in every other day to put shoes on the clients feet.

She might go three days without turning up...but she still gets paid to care for her aunt.
