Au contraire—still plenty of talent left.

I hope they will pick Shorten first, when he is burned then elect Jason Clare. Victory in the next election is very possible—the new govt just has so little talent available. Talented candidates were rejected in favor of dickheads like Jaymes Diaz who were religious enough to please the powers that be and there is so much deadwood on the front bench! Geez, imagine Dutton trying to manage Health, Hockey and Robb the economy—deep recession is inevitable as the austerity is imposed, especially after the economic illiterate Costello hands in his so–called Audit report.
Definitely not Bill Shorten. He is no Bob Hawke - not even a poor man's version of him. Stephen Smith is about the only one left with a bit of class, but he hasn't got leadership qualities.

Shorten doesn't have what it takes... I support my prime minister... whatever she said... i'm sure it's right. he knifed 2 PMs and it led to electoral disaster... he has no political nouse.

Jason Clare is just a facade... all shell no substance. I remember his hysterical drugs in sport announcement. His other posturings have just been insubstantial.

Jaymes Diaz was a result of multicultural policy. The ALP Blacktown Branch was at one stage full of old men married to Filipino brides, that came after the Filipino influx in Blacktown years ago and the creation of a large Filipino enclave in the area. Many saw that the Liberal Party was a better fit for their cultural ambition and social status and they flooded the blacktown liberal Branch Jaymes Diaz's father Jess a member on local council and Liberal branch power broker. Why was Jaymes picked... my guess... nepotism.

A friend in Greenway said his local booth was manned by at least 6 Filipinos handing out HTVs for Jaymes.
Labor's Michelle Rowland declares victory in Greenway, but Jaymes Diaz refuses to concede

Labor has declared victory in the ultra marginal western Sydney seat of Greenway, following the infamous gaffe of the Liberal's candidate Jaymes Diaz.
Ms Rowland declared victory despite her Liberal opponent Jaymes Diaz refusing to concede defeat.

"Tonight we have proven them wrong. We have come out tonight with a swing that has defied national averages," she said.

"The people of Greenway deserve nothing but the best. This is a very humbling result and means a great deal to me personally. It's been a long three years," she said.
Defending a margin of 0.88 per cent and with all the analysts predicting Mr Diaz would shoe it in despite his inept media performances, Ms Rowland had a 53.8 per cent to 46.2 per cent lead in the two-party preferred vote, achieving a swing of three per cent, with 71 per cent of vote counted.

Mr Diaz finally appeared at his campaign party just before 10pm in a Toongabbie carpark and was adamant he could still claim the marginal seat.

"It's too close to call," he said.
"This is the second time this gentlemen (Mr Diaz) has run, he simply wasn't up to it. If he does again he is throwing good money after bad."

Mr Diaz was absent from most of the major polling booths in the Blacktown-based seat and not even his own family knew where he was.

Jayme's father, Blacktown councillor and branch powerbroker Jess Diaz told the Telegraph he had didn't know where his son was outside a Toongabbie booth, while his mother Josephina was also in the dark on her son's movements when approached at Kellyville Ridge.

Campaign volunteers at several booths could not shed any light either, with one even asking why the Telegraph wanted to talk to him for.

Mr Diaz posted one photo of himself talking to Liberal volunteers at a Pendle Hill booth, won by the ALP in 2010, on his Facebook page and wouldn't pose for the media voting.
Jess Diaz told the Telegraph that his son's gaffes wouldn't matter.

"It's Labor propaganda that doesn't mean anything. People know. What is embarrassing about it? A person makes a mistake once, does anybody not make any mistakes? Is there anyone perfect in the world?," he said.

Jess Diaz said his 37-year-old lawyer son, who achieved a five per cent swing in 2010 but was unable to land the knock out blow, had been targeted by the media but wouldn't comment if he was because he was a Filipino-Australian

"Unfair and biased reporting definitely. I don't want to answer that," he said.

As for your religious crap Monk Abbott specifically did not want Diaz as a candidate. So you can roll up your inference and shove it where the sun don't shine Monkey Boy... oh political clueless one.

Stephen Smith decided not to stand for re-election so he isn't available to be leader of anything.

I'm not a devout Labor supporter. I didn't notice that Smith didn't stand for re-election. There's obviously no-one left of any quality in Labor unfortunately. From what I understand their plans for the next round will be to get Generation Y onside. That's not a bad strategy. Like Howard, Abbott has managed to hook in the baby boomers - but how long will he be able to ride on the back of that?

Clive Palmer is giddy with his own self importance already and is declaring himself a "king maker".

I vote Liberal so definitely not a "devout" (or otherwise) Labor supporter ... didn't you read/absorb anything when Gillard left and a heap of MPs left too as they would not work with Rudd? Smith promised Rudd he would stay on as Defence Minister up until the Election and that he would not stand for re-election. It was all over the news and Forums.

Why do you say Baby Boomers with a hint of disgust? Baby Boomers were born between 1946 and 1964, so Gillard, Rudd and Abbott are all Baby Boomers. Generation X are those born between 1965 and 1980 and Generation Y are those born between 1981 and now.
