You are assuming they have human values.
Violence to other species could be a core survival value. But I see your point and would like to think so.
We would be like insects to them on the evolutionary stage.
But... food is food. And we have spent 3.8 billions years evolving this planet as a great energy store in the form of life. Easy to consume. Building food from scratch using just inorganic matter is very energy consuming. Our planet has done this over time. Converting sun and chemical energy into life = food. Think of it like our use of Oil. Millions of years of life have captured the energy for us to consume for a few hundred years. They may have the same needs in the form of energy requirements to sustain them.
Yum yum.... we are just the galaxies big mac ready for a quick and easy meal.
