Can you imagine Costello? He would be bloody hopeless! He would give big tax cuts to the rich as usual, cut spending programs (like the fluffy bunny did the $200, C/w Dental Scheme) and generally run the economy into the ground. If China really is recovering and commodity prices are improving then that is very good news for the economy

this drop in unemployment was not expected by analysts it seems..

50,000 new fulltime jobs were created in the month of April as a result of the stimulus buffering the economy. To date the Govt havent been able to counter the oppostions argument that "not one new job has been created ".

Filling a previously full bucket with the same mud, does not a fantasy stick.

What has not been discussed much is the underemployment as people, like private school teachers, have had to take pay cuts and lots of others have had their working hours reduced, have been told to take all their accrued leave & long service leave, e.g. the shiftworkers at Holden.

This is reflected in the increase of homebrew store business--more people with more time but less money.

If the economy does not improve soon businesses might have to start letting go full time staff. America is a basket case, only improvement there is a slight slowing down of the number of people fired from their jobs each month. Millions there are unemployed. Japan in recession--where will the recovery come from?

Evidence of what? Tip rarely listened to Treasury--The day after the last election two Treasury officials left for Brisbane to brief Swan & Rudd. They were staggered by the fact Rudd & Swan listened more in two days than Tip did in two years. Tip would now be lost.

All he knows is budget surpluses, not budget surpluses achieved by hard work but budget surpluses claimed by dint of asset sales & minerals booms.

Those in the Liberal Party never thought much of Costello and neither did business--none of them offered him a well paid job. Only cretins like Sheepy, LOW_IQ and WI thought he and Howard were any good.

Because then minerals exports to China will begin to rise again! Miners will employ more people, miners will engage geological exploration companies, mine camp construction companies etc etc and the extra employees of the miners will start spending their wages again. The economy will pickup, tax revenues rise and dole payments decrease.

You know, like what happened 2001-7 and made a very lacklustre govt look good to some.

They are presently under a Democratic administration, but it was the Bush administration started the rot: the idiot first emptied the US Treasury with his tax cuts and THEN went to war in Iraq. 9/11 had nothing to do with the idiot Bush's decision to invade Iraq. Wars take lot of money, you don't first empty the Treasury then go to war, not unless you are a brain damaged idiot like Dubya.
