A more recent promise by Abbott - 8 months ago, to have a budget surplus in the first term has also been withdrawn. Now it's going to take ten years. Will he be in office for ten years? Hardly likely especially if he say he can't deliver a surplus for a decade. What a cop out.
The more you open your mouth the more of your leg disappears down it...
Still not 1 year eh mantra, still strugglin' to squirm out of your claims.
This ALP has created a bigger dfecit than the one Howard had to fix... of course it will take time to FIX IT... and as Hockey said if the figures were correct and remained the same they'd bring in a surplus quickly. We all know except for you apparently that things have changed for the worse under Labor and it will take longer now to bring in a surplus. One that should have been easy to create considering the increase in revenue and the mining boom which Labor wasted by pissing it up against a wall.

I gave you the information regarding Hockey on behalf of the Coalition saying there would be a budget surplus in the first year. If you choose to put your blinkers on - fine - I'm not going to keep repeating it.

And the unfunded promises of the Coalition will also increase the deficit again. Abbott is even more magnanimous than Howard with his bribes, but he's going to take a decade of austerity to put it in the black? Howard didn't have to "fix" the deficit - he chose to. We weren't in trouble. Howard cut back on so many services and squeezed the plebs so hard for cash - that the Coalition managed to put quite a generous nest egg aside in the super slush fund for the benefit of public servants only. What did we have to show for the mining "boom" during the Howard era? Two wars and a GFC at the end where thousands of people lost their super and investments. It was open slather and unregulated gambling under the earlier Coalition government - they created a pyramid economy which ended up collapsing.
Our economy isn't in bad shape and our deficit is still within safe and acceptable limits as a percentage of the GDP.
You should be more concerned about our foreign trade debt which has definitely been reduced under this government. It was out of control under the Coalition and Abbott hasn't said a word about it. No doubt we'll start importing a whole lot more under a Coalition government - that's their MO - extreme consumerism.

I'll keep repeating it for you because it is you who has the blinkers on...
Only an idiot would be posting a so-called promise from back in
March 2012... one that stated...
and I QUOTE...
"Based on current data, we will achieve a surplus in our first year of office and we will achieve a cash surplus in every year in our first term," he said.
and call it a backflip.
Yes that's right
MARCH 2012... been a few forecast changes since then eh... almost 2 budgets ago when the ALP were (always) forecasting a surplus. One they never managed to create in 11 or so budgets, yet keep on promising us...
Oh and since we are talking about TYPICAL backflips how about listing all those other typical backflips mantra?
Hey I've got one for you... THERE WILL BE NO CARBON TAX UNDER THE GOVERNMENT I LEAD... backflip of the century... not to mention kevin's superannuation promise etc, etc, etc....
BTW Tony explained very well to that guy how the PPL scheme worked and why he had it wrong

Clueless... most other country's deficits are covered by O/S assets, ours unfortunately are not.
You're not just posting crap from Monk's site are you?

Actually, if the Coalition has any clue about what DEBT Rudd and Gillard have racked up, somebody is leaking like a sieve. The Opposition does not get to see the books until they take over the reins as far as I am aware.
As far as "costings" go. Rudd hasn't divulged his yet. The Cheat! He is the Prime Monster and has access to them.
Tony Abbott's "costings" would only be worth anything if he can actually see the books ... which he can't until he becomes the Prime Monster. He is anticipating and could be way off the mark and I suspect that the Coalition are being tentative, playing down what they think the deficit is, not expanding on it. It makes sense to say we ONLY owe 300billion thanks to Labor when it turns out to be 400 billion hey?
Rudd is the braggart, not Abbott.

Was that commitment said when Gillard & Swan were still fudging the true deficit with over opportimistic unrealised revenues and understating all committed accrued and expected expenses.
Hardly in accordance with accounting principles and in particularly the concept of conservatism.

That seems a realistic assessment of the situation... yes.
Someone seems to be having problems understanding what ...
"based on current data" means.

Some people need to feed off the prospect of diminishing and undervaluing other people. It gives them that power that feeling of importance which is lacking in their life. Most people have come across such people.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion but there is not justification in ridiculing another person's view simply because you do not agree with them. Such people usually are diminutive and have not fully developed and there would appear to be little prospect for any future developement or enhancement in their thought process. Which usually explains such need for "bullying" tactics.
But such people are still needed as even the simple have contributions to make, provided that it is done in a respectful and civil manner.
Walk tall for your opinions are often supported.
