Say it isn't so ...
In 1996 or 7 a neighbor rang Nat parks & wildlife asking "which birds are protected?"
The reply was "all birds except crows [in Qld] are protected, and they will be in ...?... weeks"
Skip to 2013 and I have feral dogs in the forest behind my place getting a bitch on heat to stand on the hill next to my place and waving her fanny pheromones around in an attempt to draw my dog off, so they can kill him. She's red like my dog, but fluffier.
I put a cage fox trap near the dam down the back and baited it with chicken - dogs love bird.
Crows kept taking the bait and being caught in the trap, so the last crow became the new bait.
I mentioned this to someone, adding that I'm led to believe it is a $2000 fine for killing a crow.
His reply was "Not surprised, did you know you're not even allowed to kill cane toads now?"
Dumbfounded I said "What the hippy fuck?!"
He claimed that if you want to kill toads, you must collect and put in a freezer.
If true this is phuking absurd, because in effect it makes cane toads a protected species.
Guarantee this farcical law was drafted by a vegetarian.

It's totally different in NSW. You can kill almost anything in our National Parks and reserves now. The Shooters Party holds the balance of power here and in exchange for approving dodgy legislation anything that moves in the bush is a target. Amateur hunting is welcome and it will not be regulated.
The Shooters Party now wants children to participate in this killing spree. Even duck hunting is being resumed after being banned for so many years. I'm surprised there are no radical group of hunters in Qld who aren't assisting Newman in getting his reforms passed for a favour. Perhaps they'll get in at the next state election?

Crows and cane toads are a menace...but unlike the The Australian Raven (Corvus coronoides) the crow, cane toads are native to Central and South America, and were introduced to Australia from Hawaii in June 1935 by the Bureau of Sugar Experiment Stations in an attempt to control the native cane beetle.-Wiki
When I was a kid, I felt sorry for them and would rush to the pool-side early in the morning to scoop them out of my grandparents in ground swimming pool (They live in Bli Bli South East QLD) while my stepsisters would take pleasure in popping them with sticks.
I guess, for them, they were more of a pest than a novelty, .... I saw them as cute little brown frogs.

I wouldn't go wandering around the National Parks then mantra. You might meet a nasty "hunter".

I thought every Australian knows to carry a gun when they go bush. Australia is a dangerous place.

That's what I tell the POMs anyway.

You obviously haven't been keeping up with the news. Why would you if hunting doesn't bother you. Of course the Greens aren't advocates of hunting, as are most of the NSW population. The amateur hunters are a minority, but are being given a privilege over the majority.Rorschach wrote:That's a demented Greenie lie. It's totally different in NSW. It is a bit dangerous here, but insects and snakes are basically the main offenders. I sometimes watch that show - "I shouldn't be alive" and the number of grisly bear and mountain lion attacks in the US is alarming yet so many people still go into the bush unarmed only to end up with body parts ripped or bitten off.Super Nova wrote:I thought every Australian knows to carry a gun when they go bush. Yes. Most POMs know about the bears and things.mantra wrote:It is a bit dangerous here, but insects and snakes are basically the main offenders. Snakes and insects scare them more. When I tell them about the dropbears... they sit up and listen.
When I tell them I take an umbrella to put up on clear nights when I walk through the bush to protect me from dropbears.... some start to twig... only some. I find iamges like the one above and show it to them and they freak. Great fun since they all think it is so dangerous.
And it is, relative, here in the UK... there is nothing that can hurt you. Nothing. It's bloody sterile when it comes to dangerous things. Bush walking here is like walking through a town park or golf course at home.

There is nothing dangerous in Australia if you take precautions and give creatures a bit of space. The only danger is the Greens and their idiotic idea that every single asylum seeker should be given immediate OK to settle in Sydney. You're OK, Jack and so am I, as we do NOT live in Sydney ... but imagine if you can 10-15 years down the track when Muslims become the main religion in Australia. Is that what you want for this great country? Think outside the box, mantra. Think of your children and grandchildren.mantra wrote:
