It's a bit ironic that PUP is using the Titanic as the title for their campaign. This party definitely deserves to sink on its maiden voyage into politics.

This is what I get when I try to send a PM:

Anyway, I'm off topic here. I'm sure that AiA will sort it out. Frustrating though.

Speaking of minor parties... THE GREENS
Greens would give asylum seekers full welfare under 'more humane' policy

ASYLUM seekers would get almost $500 a fortnight on full welfare and access to other benefits under a Greens immigration policy that would fast-track processing and also give them full work rights. Nice of the greens to think of non-Australians that have never contributed to our country...

Greens Leader Christine Milne will today unveil the plan to treat asylum seekers more humanely and lift the payment rate from the current $442 - calculated at 89 per cent of the $497 fortnightly Centrelink Newstart payment - to the full level of the benefit.

They would have rights to full welfare including rent assistance as well as full work rights to allow them to compete with Australian workers for jobs.

While Labor and the Coalition are locked in an arms race with increasingly hard line policies, the Greens would abolish offshore processing and asylum seekers would be processed through onshore detention, health and security checks within 30 days before being released into the community on bridging visas instead of current lengthy waits.

The minor party will argue the full welfare rights will get asylum seekers contributing to the economy and the extra payments are affordable under its Safer Pathways plan that saves $3.2 billion over the forward estimates by dismantling costly offshore processing, having less people in detention, closing offshore detention centres and closing and not building new onshore facilities.

The humanitarian intake would also be increased from the current 20,000 people to 30,000 people a year. :du

But the plan is likely to come under fire from the government and opposition for reverting to onshore policy and providing extra incentives for people to board dangerous boats and risk their lives travelling to Australia. :du :du

Asked about the safety of reverting to onshore processing given the hundreds of drownings from boat capsizings, Senator Milne yesterday said the offshore processing regime since the Houston report last August had been a failure - shown by ongoing boat arrivals in record numbers. :du :du :du

Senator Milne said it was important to cut both the financial and social costs while treating refugees in a more humane way and not end up with a generation of "damaged people". How about treating poor Australians better first... no one can live on Newstart for example.

"We believe deterrence does not work and that has been demonstrated in the past 12 months," she said. :du :du :du :du

"There are huge social and financial costs by creating an underclass of people who cannot work and who are destined for poverty. Like your fellow Australians ... Why wouldn't you give them that support and allow them to contribute their skills to the Australian community?" yes why would you put them before your fellow Australians

The full immigration policy can be revealed by News Corp Australia after the party launched its campaign in Canberra yesterday, demanding a Senate inquiry to scrutinise the legal, financial and moral implications of the current regime.

The asylum seeker policy was costed by the Parliamentary Budget Office but it did warn the figures had a "low reliability" because of the difficulty in estimating the costs of the Nauru centre and savings from shutting down some onshore facilities.

Julian Burnside will launch the policy today with Greens immigration spokeswoman Sarah Hanson-Young in Adelaide. :du :du :du :du :du

Senator Hanson-Young said economic savings were just one of the many advantages of the party's refugee policy. :du :du :du :du :du

"Australia's international reputation is being tarnished by the old parties and their obsession with cruelty," she said. :du :du :du :du :du

"While the Labor Party wants to lock children up on Nauru and Tony Abbott wants to set fire to boats in Indonesia, the Greens are offering a considered, evidence based approach." Oh for goodbess sake how much twaddle do we have to put up with from these goobers...

Speaking of preferences... who will the Greens preference and how will them not receiving as many preferences alter their results this election?

I'm hoping they will disappear up their proverbial Nef... esp; Milne, Bandt and Hanson-Young.

Speaking of Minor Parties.
WikiLeaks Party rejects Greens leader Chinstine Milne's claims of 'betrayal'; says not a front for Greens
* From: AAP
* August 23, 2013 1:36AM

THE WikiLeaks Party has accused the Australian Greens of trying to divert voters away from it.

Julian Assange's party faced criticism earlier in the week for preferencing the Shooters and Fishers Party and Australia First Party ahead of the major parties and the Greens on its how to vote cards.

Greens Leader Christine Milne went as far as accusing WikiLeaks as "betraying" her party.

The party has rejected that claim, saying it had placed the Greens first among the major parties in all states where it has candidates.

"Milne's comments must be seen as ungracious and part of a hostile attempt to divert voters from the WikiLeaks Party," it said in a statement.

The party warned that it wasn't a "front group for any other party, including the Greens".

WikiLeaks has both right-wing and left-wing policy goals, it says.

"The WikiLeaks Party is both a party of the left and the right in that we represent the struggle for both justice and freedom," the party said.

Meanwhile, WikiLeaks announced RMIT legal expert Dr Binoy Kampmark would now be Mr Assange's main running mate in the Senate election for Victoria.

He replaces ethicist Leslie Cannold who quit on Wednesday after a dispute over preferences, claiming the party was failing to live up to its democratic principles.

Her resignation was followed by other senior figures walking away from the party, including a number of people on its National Council.

Mr Assange, who is holed up in the Ecuadorean embassy in London, said he had spent the past two months dealing with the Edward Snowden asylum situation.

"Trying to save the life of a young man," Mr Assange told ABC television. "So I admit and I accept full responsibility for over-delegating function to the Australian party while I tried to take care of those situations."

He said the nine-hour time difference made it difficult being party leader and he hadn't been aware of the internal problems until Wednesday morning. :hi2

"Leslie didn't speak to me to address any issues or concerns," he said.

"From my perspective, if something is serious you speak to the party leader about it before you speak to the press."

National Council member Daniel Mathews announced his resignation late on Wednesday night, citing "the recent fiasco over Senate preferences". :hi2

Mr Mathews was critical of Mr Assange for only attending one of 13 National Council meetings.

"Helping Ed Snowden is surely more important than attending a council meeting," he said in a statement.

"But still, attending one out of the first 13 National Council meetings of the party (all of which he could call into) is a fairly low participation rate in one's own party." Just another narcissist.

Senior Liberal Eric Abetz said the implosion of the WikiLeaks Party highlights the essential instability of minor parties".

"This is a salutary object lesson on the dangers of voting for minor parties," Senator Abetz said in a statement.
