I notice from your article ''Landlines on way out'' (August 2, p6) that 20 per cent of people have disconnected their home (land) phones and switched to mobile. A further third (or 27 per cent) are considering it. This is close to 50 per cent that either have changed, or are considering changing, to using mobile communication devices only.
The national broadband network business plan (which the public have never seen) is supposedly based on a 90 per cent take-up rate of all Australians. This will clearly never happen as half the available market has disappeared well before the NBN has been built.
I support the broad NBN concept but I, like many knowledgeable about the market characteristics, argue that the NBN should never have been technology specific. It should have been technology agnostic to allow for evolving technical capabilities.
In a letter ''Is broadband best'' (April 13, 2009), I pointed out that no country has ever exceeded a 50 per cent take-up rate. With 50 per cent of the available market gone, the most likely take-up rate Australia will ever achieve is about 25 per cent, which is close to the best being achieved in early roll-outs. The NBN will bleed red for all time.

If we have a change of government and the NBN is subjected to sensible rigorous scrutiny so that all appropriate technologies are included, we will see something like $20 to $40 billion saved on the ''true'' installation cost. Since my 2009 and 2010 letters, it is now widely accepted that the original cost estimate of $43 billion was not even close. If the NBN were changed and built in accordance with ''real-life experience'' gained from more than 20 years of installations in other countries, it might actually operate profitably with a take-up rate of 25 per cent.
Think what that might do for the precarious budget.

Syntheo has told the NBN and the ALP to get fucked as the pay rates are sending contractors to the wall so they will not renew their contract (remember Conroy interfering with the tender?)
It's likely that the NBN will cost even more and roll out will be even slower- but no worries eh Monk, you useless fuck. NBN even if it costs $200Bn
You really shouldn't be allowed to vote.

GFast not the answer Turncoat thinks it is:

Fraudband is faux policy (like boats) designed to get the Libs over the line but when Cossie’s “audit” report is handed down Abbott will say “too bad, can’t afford it.” Only way to get real superfast broadband is to vote Labor.

0.5mm cable. And Telstra copper is? Mostly 0.4 and 0.32mm! That we know from Telstra’s own documentation,Alcatel even clearly states in their article on G.Fast & Vectoring 2.0:
This is why G.fast is seen as a technology that is intended to operate over loops that are less than 250 m on 0.5 mm cable.

Soretiarse and yourself are going to have to dry each others tears on your ballsacks and find something else to sob about because your going to get Turnbulls solution and you're going to be fucking grateful for it.
Suck it up, princess. The ALP NBN is dead and many years from now, history will be written to the brilliant success of the "Coalition super fast broadband" solution.

Sortius was the moron who got his arse kicked over the "timestamp" crap that even a IT cadet could have worked out yet Monkey Boy keeps using him as an authority.

Monk, in light of Rudds concerns re- a looming recession, how may we afford Labors NBN?
Also, why is NBN Co now dumping contracts?
- See more at: http://sourceable.net/nbn-contractor-dumped/
Could this be a sign that even if Rudd wins Government again, they are not in a position to roll the NBN out as promised?

Also, why is NBN Co now dumping contracts?
On Monday, it was revealed contracts being held by Syntheo, a joint venture between Lend Lease and infrastructure services firm Service Stream which was a major construction partner with regard to the network build in South Australia and Western Australia, would not be renewed beyond their current terms.
In a statement, government owned NBN Co said a ‘mutual decision’ had been reached not to extend Syntheo’s contracts despite an urgent need to ramp up work on the rollout.

However, as we all know...an "international search" is currently underway to find a replacement for outgoing NBN Co chief Mike Quigley, who refuses to provide a rational for his rumoured forced resignation.NBN Co Chief Executive Mike Quigley says the latest developments will not affect the overall cost of the project or the long-term completion of the build by 2021. -

Interesting blog on history of Telstra sale and the NBN

So, if the NBN doesn’t go ahead Telstra share prices will plummet again!
