How long did it take for Kevin to agree to a debate.
Here he is in public taunting Abbott about having a debate yet his party has been sitting on dates agreed to by Brian Loughnane all the while...
Federal Election 2013: Kevin Rudd and Tony Abbott to debate on Sunday

KEVIN Rudd has agreed to debate Tony Abbott this Sunday.

Liberal party federal director Brian Loughnane has released correspondence with his ALP counterpart, George Wright, in which the showdown was confirmed.

It will be held at the National Press Club in Canberra and Mr Abbott wants questions to be taken from journalists, the audience and social media.

"Thank you for finally confirming Mr Rudd's agreement to Mr Abbott's proposal for a debate this Sunday," Mr Loughnane said.

"The Coalition believes this is the most important election in a generation.

"I note that Mr Rudd has not responded to Mr Abbott's proposal for Leader's debates in Western Sydney and Brisbane. I look forward to confirmation that Mr Rudd will agree to these important forums."

The only other time the two men have debated is in 2010, on health reform.

It was also at the National Press Club in Canberra.

Labor and the Coalition have been at odds over leadership debates and Government plans to continue a multimillion-dollar advertising campaign on asylum seekers.

Prime Minister Rudd has said he wants Opposition Leader Mr Abbott to debate him on Sunday with the Seven Network to host the broadcast and voters firing in questions using Facebook.

But Mr Abbott wanted the National Press Club to be the forum.

ALP national secretary George Wright issued the debate challenge in a letter to his Liberal counterpart Brian Loughnane, requesting the debate take place in Sydney and that "Channel 7 in conjunction with Facebook host this first debate between the Prime Minister and Mr Abbott".

Labor argued that this format - which has never been used in Australian elections - "would ensure that millions of voters have the opportunity to both participate and watch both leaders debate the issues of importance to them and our nation's future".

Mr Wright also argued that the use of social media would "facilitate greater participation" by young people in the election process. you can just imagine the get up kiddies out there hogging the Net and the type of questions they be asking.

Mr Abbott also wants a series of community-style debates in Sydney and Brisbane.

The stoush over the election debates is mirrored by the brawl over taxpayer-funded advertising during the "caretaker" period.

Confidential documents reveal the Government wants to saturate the electorate with television, radio and newspaper advertisements - a move slammed as a "blatant misuse" of taxpayer money.

The campaign - which has been running since the Prime Minister struck a deal to send asylum seekers to Papua New Guinea nearly three weeks ago - has already cost about $5 million.

Labor is desperately hoping to neutralise the issue during the campaign as it defends a raft of marginal seats.

But Mr Abbott has accused the PM of "conveniently" forgetting his 2007 pledge to ban blatant political advertising and called on his rival to halt the campaign.

"All asylum seeker advertising for Australian audiences and paid for by the taxpayer is opposed and under the Caretaker Convention must cease immediately," Mr Abbott warned the PM, in a letter sent last night.

Once caretaker provisions are introduced, governments require opposition approval to advertise on "matters of contention" between the parties such as asylum seekers or the Gonski education reforms.

Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus, in a letter to Mr Abbott, claims the campaign is "critical" to getting the message across to "diaspora communities" to deter people from Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Iran and other countries from making the dangerous trek.

"Given the shared commitment of all political parties in Australia to the prevention of people smuggling, I seek the Opposition's agreement to the continuation of this campaign," Mr Dreyfus said.

Documents show the advertisements are planned to run across television, newspapers and radio until the end of August - and possibly into September.

Ethnic media will also be targeted as part of a campaign that warns "You won't be settled in Australia" if you arrive without a visa.

The letter from Mr Dreyfus concedes that a number of expensive campaigns - including on Gonski education reforms, superannuation and Medicare Locals "maybe perceived" to be contentious and have been halted. But he still wants to run them...

But it's the Government's push to continue taxpayer-funded advertising on asylum seekers that has angered the Opposition.

"We do not support the continuation of a multi-million dollar taxpayer funded campaign aimed at Australia voters, rather than people residing overseas," Mr Abbott writes, in his letter to the PM.

Advertising in Australia "in an election campaign is nothing more than a blatant misuse of taxpayer money for political purposes," Mr Abbott said.

The Opposition Leader accuses the PM of "conveniently" forgetting his 2007 election commitment "and only consulting with the Opposition now because you are legally bound to do so under the Caretaker Conventions".

Mr Dreyfus last night said: "In the national interest and consistent with caretaker conventions, I have written to the Leader of the Opposition to consult on a range of public information campaigns, including to prevent people making dangerous journeys to Australia by boat.

"I have done so on the basis that the Opposition has indicated that it supports the Government's arrangement with PNG."

Kevin Rudd is a LIAR. I see that he is out and about waving at school children again. Somebody should tell him that Primary School Children don't vote. He just looks like an idiot. There is another Youtube thing with him flicking his fringe 21 times in one interview. Quite funny. Oops just noticed Black Orchid found that hair flicking thing. Hilarious.

When did Tony start wearing glasses? Please notice the "handshake" ... I seem to recall Tony being advised NOT to stick his arm/hand out to shake with Kev ........ now Kev is doing it. Not as bad as that other lump, whatshisname, who got up "close and personal" with Howard!

GO TONY!!!!!

PS. Since I signed up for email with the Libs on the weekend, have only had 3 "announcements" and NO begging for donations!

Neither of them can tie a Windsor knot!

I think he looks more serious/statesmanlike with them on, not that Credlin would ever think of that.
