I knew I smelled a rat.... in some countries, e-health examinations are compulsory for those wishing to immigrate/work in Australia.

I'll bet you that most if not all of the pitiful 1% of doctors here in Australia that have signed up for e-health, had to in order to immigrate and work here in Australia to begin with.

Now, will our communist government admit they have abused their position of power, used immigrants seeking a better life here in Australia to get the required numbers needed to convince us that patients and Dr's alike are actually taking an interest in e-health, and willingly signed up to a system that isn't even functional yet of their own free will?


Release the true figures as to who is actually signed up, and whether or not they did so out of perceived necessity, in order to immigrate or obtain a working visa here in Australia.

This government is beyond belief.... their corruption knows no boundaries.

eHealth will take ages to get done but it is something that does have to be done. Kudos the govt for pushing ahead with it.

Telehealth is taking off too. Used to be just the medic alert button a senior citizen could press if they had a fall etc. Now gadgets can take blood pressure, temperature, do an ECG, test blood for sugar—and shoot the data to a medical centre. Person can then have a high def video chat with his doctor. For very frail people, for those living outside the major cities going to physically see a doctor can take ages to set up an appointment and take hours of driving this will be a godsend. For regular monitoring—no doctor need be involved at all.

With Boomers retiring and getting old and frail and relying on a very small (relatively) cohort of workers the productivity, the telehealth etc will be essential.

The alternative will be to build, staff and run more hospitals and nursing homes. Very expensive!

On June 26, Rupert Murdoch used Twitter to write: ''Australian public now totally disgusted with Labor Party wrecking country with it's sordid intrigues. Now for a quick election.'' Rudd's greatest failing, in the eyes of News Corp management, and the greatest threat he poses, is his $45+ billion NBN, a massive project announced without any serious costing. News Corp views this as a threat to the business model of its most important Australian asset, Foxtel, jointly owned with Telstra.

The company much prefers the Coalition's less costly but also less ambitious national broadband strategy. News Corp newspapers have reported the numerous failings and cost-over-runs of the NBN in hundreds of stories.

Although the Coalition's alternative is less costly, it offers an inferior capacity for downloading content at a time when consumer demand is shifting dramatically towards content-on-demand and content via computers.

This shift is reflected in the enormous run-up in the shares of the market leader in content-on-demand, Netflix. Shares in Netflix closed at $US246 (A$276) in New York on Friday, a prodigious run-up from its $52 price a year ago. Netflix now has a market valuation of $US14.5billion compared with $3 billion a year ago.

Foxtel has responded to this threat by launching its own content-on-demand product, FoxtelGo, and is launching an online-only version, FoxtelPlay.

Foxtel's co-parent, News Corp, is engaging in a more structural response.

It wants to kill the NBN threat at its ultimate source - Kevin Rudd.

The simple reason is that the Coalition’s #Fraudband makes Foxtel more deliverable to more homes in Australia, but it shuts out the really high-quality, and potentially far more numerous, on-line (IPTV) alternatives, relegating them to lower standards than they can offer with the higher broadband speeds of the genuine NBN.

In effect, Murdoch’s Foxtel is the slowest ship, and he’s holding the rest of the convoy back to keep that business – his only major profit-making venture in Australia – viable.

Also—the real NBN allows high UPload speeds—content creation not just consumption.

VDSL comes in for a caning—a household of two people will find even the promised up to 25mbps does not offer anywhere near enough bandwidth, let a lone a family with kids (kids aged up to 30 these days, remember.)

And GFast, 1Gbps over copper needs special shielding to protect FM broadcasts from interference. How is that going to impact pits and pipes? Also requires .64mm copper, ours is .32 and .4 so forget about GFast here, no matter how often Turncoat lauds it.
