I'm pretty sure Reza must have honed his interview skills on forums like PA...

Re: Reza Aslan
He seems to think quite highly of his PhD and how his scholarly credentials should trump his own personal religious ideology and journey (Muslim background ---> Christian ---> Muslim) yet titles his book "Zealot".
An scholar should and would recognise, admit and account for intrinsic bias, but he seems (from this interview) to do none of these, which is understandable - his reason for publishing is to sell it and controversy sells.
I think it would be an interesting read and I will torrent it for free as soon as it becomes available.

Every attack on this author increases book sales, a fact his publisher well knows.

This author is getting a lot of press here in the US and am sure his publisher has done all it can to garner controversy for the book.
My personal thoughts on Jesus: he was a spiritual teacher, maybe even the greatest but we don't know much about him, really nothing at all. Was his name actually Jesus? Was he really a Jew? Even these fundamental questions can't be answered. But the New Testament WAS written long after Jesus died by people who never met him so lacks accuracy. Did you see the movie Lincoln? When Lincoln dies in the movie one of his cabinet members says something like "He is now of the ages" but we don't know if that was actually said. Someone else in the room reported "He is now with the angels" as being said. In an age of diaries, newspapers, photography and the telegraph, just a 150 years ago, we don't know the actual words spoken. So how can we know what Jesus said ... or did?
