They can already marry in a civil ceremony and are not denied any of the rights that married couples are shown, except for it to be consecrated in a Church.

It's not about 'marriage' per se. It's about control so they can accuse the Church of 'violating their human rights'. Militant lefties attacking organised religion is just a part of their political agenda.

Yes, they have the same legal rights as a Defacto/Common Law partnership, under the Family Law .... most people don't get married in a Church anyway and haven't done for decades. Many of the X Generation haven't bothered to get married at all. They can't divorce but the same rules apply with regard to children and property should they decide to separate.
