. . . along comes swine flu from Mexico.
This morning I woke up to hear NewsRadio indicate the warning on swine fever had been lifted to a higher grade.
Something tells me this will be much worse than SARS: you could avoid getting SARS by washing your hands before eating etc. Flu spreads much faster.
Still bought a couple nice pork chops this morning for tonights dinner--you don't get swine flu from eating pork, esp quality local pork.
Edit: this is the Monk, errrrr
Edit: this is a quote from a PB member who also happens to be a doctor in the SA public health service:
The WHO has raised the pandemic threat level from 3 to 4, which means that verified human-to-human transmission has happened in Mexico. If/when they confirm human-to-human transmission in the US, the threat level will rise to 5 which means a pandemic is imminent.

Be alert but not alarmed (yet)

It's certainly causing havoc on the stock markets with the Asian markets, airlines and oil traders performing lower. Drug companies are doing well. Hmmmm, I wonder why that could be?

I watched a pandemic expert talk about the history of pandemics and he stated although no one wants to endure one your chances of dying on the road to work will always be much greater.
He had very thick glasses and a nasal voice so I trust him.

Belinda Neal caught in Mexican swine flu scare
After encountering the virus, Ms Neal said to it “Do you know who I am?”

From another health worker on PB:
BTW, we should be O.K. with the Babe Bastard Flu. There is a high probability of a new vaccine in 10 weeks, specific to this flu. Meanwhile, the existing antivirals will likely prevent deaths as long as people get themselves screened and identified as having the Babe illness ASAP.
Like "babe" for swine
Be a good idea to wash hands frequently and wash surfaces (chopping boards etc) and tools used to prepare food more often--that is the way to avoid any virus pretty much, they said this when SARS was causing concern. Wash hands after any visit to the loo, for number one and number two!
