But if you develop a sore throat immediately sucking a Strepsil or three can sometimes ward off a cold.
When gripped by a cold then a hot lemon is good:
Juice 1 lemon
15-30ml spirit (brandy, gin whatever, your choice)
tbsp honey
Put all in tall glass with a handle and fill with boiling water. Sip, finish while drink still hot.
If cold is worse, a steam may help:
biggish bowl
2-3L boiling water top pour into bowl
blanket of big thick towel to put over one's head and you breathe in the steam/vapor coming off the water, really lubricates throat & windpipe.
Resist the temptation to add VapoRub or whatever to the hot water, all we want is the steam to soothe & lubricate sore throat etc.

That is the same as my recepie! Only mine has hearty lashings of Wild Turkey sans everything in the Chunky Monk's recepie.

Re: Winter
yeah I want to see buckshot and feathers as well..
I meant there is more to wild turkey that just the word turkey..neither word inspires you to go buy a bottle.

I was still game enough to walk to the beach with my irritating dog. She ran straight into the water with the leash trailing behind her. Unfortunately there were no sharks around so she's still here with us.
