Carbon taxes or an ETS like we have is the best way to reduce emissions.
I don't agree. If taxes are the only way to change behaviour and governments don't reduce taxes in other areas to make it net zero on the punters then they are just using a good cause to raise extra revenue. They become hooked on it and then it doesn't drive the right behaviour. I look at petrol, cigarette and booze taxes and they are now only there to raise revenue now not change behaviour. These taxes haven't really changed any behaviours in a major way. Poor people move to smoking rollies and cheep booze.
I don't think it is the best way. Education and a move culturally from short term economics needs to be considered.
Oh.... btw... welcome back Monk.

Even if used as extra revenue (and not, as here, used in the best way possible by tripling the tax free thresold) the extra cost of pollution (GHG) and electricity causes as nothing else a change in behavior to lower pollution/energy use.
Have a look at the Selling the Carbon Tax thread on my board and you will see.
That other stuff, education, mitigation and adaptation needs to be done too, of course.
Thank you for your welcome, SN.

Thanks aia for highlighting this.
A thousand years to revert if we stop now and co2 at levels not seen for 10 million years when it was much warmer with nearly no ice anywhere on the planet. That will screw a few skiing trips.
Time for a plan to do something or........ we will change the planet beyond anything since humans first evolved.
It's real. Time to get real.

The more CO2 in the air, the less nitrogen they take in. Less N2 = less protein.

Ironic in that Y2K was also a scare campaign pumped by vested interests that turned out to be a fixer
