China may not overtake America this century after all

Post by Super Nova » Thu May 09, 2013 10:36 pm

This is a surprise to me. This article isa good insight into why China may not achieve what we thought it would.

Doubts are growing about whether China can pass the US to become the world's biggest economy this century amid warnings that the country’s 30-year miracle is nearing exhaustion.

All those charts showing China's economy surging past the US by 2030, or 2025, or even 2017, will look very credulous. China may not surpass the US this century.

There has been talk about the downturn in China's economy for a while now. Of course with China being our second biggest export market - their downturn is also affecting our mineral sales. They have been stockpiling our minerals for a while - so even though they are slowing down, they have filled their pantry with enough resources to keep their energy and manufacturing industries stable for a few years forward.

Funnily enough manufacturing has picked up in the US. A few years ago it was abysmal, so Obama must be doing something right.

I don't know how well Obama is doing but the US is doing better than some expected. It's the attitude on that country that makes a difference. The EU and POMs are just fucking hopeless at reacting swiftly on the economy.

China as some real problems that are normal considering the pace of change and where they started.

Like the article said, China is getting old and will continue to get older before it can get rich and surpass the US. Also, China's environmental problems are catching up with them. Then there is the matter of China's economic figures being inflated.

As the Himalayan glaciers keep retreating so do the 7 major rivers fed by those glaciers, no wonder China wants to trial carbon taxes and the like.
