All we can hope is that she gets some sort of medical emergency.

Queenmaker Tony Windsor made the most extraordinary perverse admission yesterday about his key reason for choosing Labor: he did it because he thinks most Australians don't want the ALP in government.

He feared that if he endorsed the coalition it could lead to an early election that Tony Abbott would win. So he decided to give voters a Government they don't want on the basis that Julia Gillard will be too afraid to go to an early election she would lose.

It was a breathtaking admission of rank self-interest.

More importantly, it was a democratic obscenity from a person allegedly offering us the flowering of a new, more accountable system.

Mr Windsor, along with fellow independent Rob Oakeshott, wants the hung Parliament to continue for as long as possible, not to create a stable government but simply to enshrine their peculiar position of unearned power. But talk about handing someone a poisoned chalice. In one comment, Mr Windsor conferred illegitimacy on Ms Gillard's Government for as long as he decides to keep her in power. From his own mouth, Mr Windsor is keeping her there because he thinks she can't beat Mr Abbott.

Stimulus was anything but a success story

Fiscal stimulus failed to deliver as governments around the world expected it to during the splurge

BAD economic policy is invariably based on an economic fallacy. At the industry level, an example of this is that government assistance to manufacturing preserves long-term jobs, and at the macroeconomic level, that boosting unproductive government spending can prevent recessions without harmful lasting effects.

Take a tip from the punters

ON Sunday, after he had replaced the back decking on the family home, Tony Abbott took the old planks down to the tip. When he got there, as well as directions on where to dump his load, one of the workers in a high-vis vest gave him some free advice.

This tip worker did not say: Tony, build Labor's NBN, we have to have 100 megabits per second at our house because we want to insert a silicon chip in our arms so we can open our front door without a key. He did not say: Tony, give us the full Gonski, even if you have to cut funding for universities. He didn't even say: Tony, for gawd's sake, we are worried sick about our jobs, make sure you keep the economy ticking over.

What Australians want is a COMPETENT Government.

Whyalla Wipeout....
Arafura scraps $1bn Whyalla plant as costs rise, rare earths price falls

A MINING company has blamed Australia's high costs for its scrapping of a plan to build a $1 billion processing plant at Whyalla, South Australia, that would have created 1000 jobs.

Rare earths explorer Arafura Resources told shareholders today that it would make savings of up to $1 billion by moving an intermediate processing plant closer to its Nolans Bore Mine site in the Northern Territory.

The planned plant would reportedly have brought $100 million in additional economic benefits other than jobs to Whyalla.

Whyalla Mayor Jim Pollock said he was shocked by the announcement, which dashed hopes of 1000 new jobs for the industrial city. :?

Whyalla has suffered a series of blows in recent months, with BHP Billiton postponing its huge Olympic Dam expansion and jobs at OneSteel under threat.

Arafura Resources chairman Ian Kowalick said the company's decision reflected Australia's high cost environment.

“The single biggest factor is the escalation of project development costs in the Australian market which are uncompetitive,” he said.

“This is a question of the Australian cost structure.” prepare for the denials...

Mr Kowalick said the company would now attempt to reduce its project costs by up to $1bn to make it “fundable”, and would shift the bulk of its processing work to the Northern Territory where it operated a mine site at Nolans Bore.

“The strategy has had to change (and) we are going down the path of proceeding with a very different model than what has announced.”

There has also been a recent slump in the price of rare earths, used in many high-tech products.

Miner Lynas said last week that prices had fallen 13 per cent in the first quarter of the year.

Wow, some fools believe its Labor's fault when mine prices drop. They also think its Labor's fault when companies choose to move to other sites to make larger profits, FMD. I'm surprised its taken the company so long to make this decision, according to phony tony Whyalla was due to be wiped off the map last June.
